Porsche Speaks: Small Cayenne is a no go
Yesterday a report by AutoBild took over auto enthusiast publications that Porsche is working on a compact SUV based on the upcoming Audi Q5 which will carry the name “Porsche Roxter.” Actually, the report also popped up back in March but that’s besides the point. Anyway, later yesterday afternoon Porsche denied in a statement that it is planning a compact SUV in a report made by Dow Jones Newswire.

However, Porsche did copyright the name “Roxer” which led auto magazines to believe the name was registered for a small compact SUV.

The Audi Q5 is already confirmed and will be based on Audi’s Cross Coupe. The SUV will make its debut at the Geneva Motor Show.

If Porsche later announces that a small SUV is indeed planned, it wouldn't much of a surprise. With the Q5 & VW Tiguan on their way, a mini-Cayenne might be profitable. Porsche may be waiting to see how the corporate cousins do in the market before making any type of commitment to build a smaller SUV. The X3 & ML have been doing well, but it's no clear how the GLK and Q5 will do in countries such as the US where the most units may be eventually sold.

The ML competes with the X5, not the X3- the GL is ten inches longer than the X5.

Otherwise, yes, I agree with you.

There is no need for Porsche to go ahead with such a vehicle. I think the Cayenne itself was unnecessary for Porsche but was only convenient for the company since they had a VW platform to work off of so it was considered an option.

It was "convenient" for them because they knew they would make more MONEY. They didn't care how it looked or how heavy it was when they designed it, obviously; they just wanted to become a hugely profitable car company.

I'm glad the baby-Cayenne isn't happening. That would just be too low for Porsche.
