Now Porsche is out once again playing with fire with the four-door Panamera which analysts say - you got it - will hurt the brand’s sports car image.

Covers will be taken off of the Porsche Panamera early next year and it will arrive on the market in late 2009 in a segment that will soon see sedans from Aston Martin and Lamborghini.

At launch, the rear-wheel-drive Panamera will come with...

Kinda makes sense...brings in a liiitttlleee more customers.

Among the upper class, it might meet up with a little competition with a future Mercedes S-class four-door convertible or Aston Martin Rapide Volante.

The car shouldn't look too bad with the top down.

...and in spite of that the Japanese makers continue to build convertibles. At least we have Porsche to spoil us with gorgeous designs.

one of the few good convertible designs i've ever seen is the nissan Z. i think the Z styling is far less diminished in convertible form than the 911 is.

convertibles are ugly (relative to coupes)no matter who makes them. porsche has some great designs, but their 911 cabrio looks like a gerbil with a cyst in its rectum. it may be the worst translation from coupe to convertible that i have ever seen.

We have a very good idea of what the 4 door will look like and chopping the top of an already ugly car will make it even worse.

To each his own. I see a limited amount of these ever on the road. Like Aston Martin Lagonda, this car is "unique" to say the least. A standout for sure. We will see how well it will go. Just say I would take a pass on this purchase and wait for the Aston Martin Rapide.
