Preview: 2010 Audi Q3 SUV
Audi’s compact Q3 soft-roader is expected to be given the green light by senior management within months, which means we should see the first cars roll off the production line by early 2009. Before the Q3 arrives, Audi is expected to launch the mid-sized Q5 SUV along with its Tiguan sibling from sister brand Volkswagen.

The Q3, meanwhile, will be based on Audi’s Cross Coupe concept car that was showcased at April’s Shanghai Auto Show. These renderings show that designers are sticking with the lines of the concept car and that final production versions will feature a five-door body.

Can't be serious! Might as well call it the A2 or VW Lupo...

Sadly, BMW made an "affordable" SAV in the X3. It's a terrible car, but BMW forced Audi to come up with an economical SUV priced much cheaper than its flagship Q7.

well, this is on top of the fact that they will release Q5?

I don't get this, what's the Q5 going to compete with?
I think Audi might be overdoing it with all these new cars.

I think the Q5 competes with the RX (in pricing), but that are future sporty/luxury mid-sized SUVs coming to market in the next 2-3 years. In the US, Lincoln's MKX may become a solid performer. Cadillac is redesigning the SRX and will offer a smaller SUV (BRX) along with a Saab SUV sharing the same platform. Infiniti is developing a small SUV to complement the FX. Mercedes will release the GLK soon to complement the ML & GL. Acura's RDX is pretty nice.

There will be a lot of options soon. And it's best to have a product out there sooner-than-later so the other brands will be seen as having "me-too" offerings.

I have read different thing about this car, where will it compete?
One magazine said the Q5 would compete with the ML/RX sized vehicles, and the Q3 with the X3...but now it appears the Q5 competes with the X3 and this with...nothing.

And they can't use the Q3 name, Nissan only let them use Q5 and Q7, copyright and stuff. (apparently Nissan has some car with a Q in it)

Infinity's flagship car and suv use the letter Q. However they've both been a big disaster for them. I think they should let Audi use the "Q" and they should come out with something completely different to help everyone forget about those cars. But then again i don't think anyone will remember them.

Nissan has the Q-Ship (Q45). Though it hasn't been popular or updated in a while, I believe it's still being produced. I think Nissan's next major updates will be a new Maxima (please offer AWD), Q45, and QX56 large SUV.

I thought VW announced they were developing a small SUV (cute-ute) based on the Golf platform. This Q3 would be a luxury version of it, right?

Just what my wife wants but the question is: will it have one or more Torsen differentials or some el cheapo AWD sytem that Audi still calls the Quattro?
