When asked if Honda will lower the price tag of the Insight, Tekeo Fukui, President of Honda Motor Co., said that he will not cut the price of the Insight hybrid hatch in spite of the attempts by it closest competitor Toyota Motor Corp. to undercut the car with a low-priced Prius.

Fukui says that there would be no sense in doing so. He further said that his company is currently developing a hybrid drivetrain for larger vehicles, ditching earlier plans to rely on clean diesels in that class. Toyota has set a base price of $2.05 million Yen ($20,750), for the highly awaited third generation Prius which will be introduced next month. This Prius will come with a price tag equal to a middle-trim Insight, which Honda is attempting to set as the first affordable hybrid in the world.
