I'm with you on that one. I mean it could possibly grow on me, but I just don't like that much. I don't know why. I would definately go for the X5 over this. And I know most people here love this car which makes me feel like the minority but I just can't find anything to like about it. Maybe if I drive one I would change my mind but for now my mind is set.

This car is amazing. Wait till you see one in person. I sat in one at the NAIAS 2008 and it is nothing short of spectacular inside and out.

I think it looks good now that I have seen it in full production spec. I almost wish BMW would do a 5 door like this in sedan form. I think it would look hot, and without the jacked up lifestyle truck look. I honestly don't see the point of this vehicle. But this looks good and I am going to be curious and drive one for sure. Any expected due dates?

It looks fantastic.

The X6 50i will be a monster...

Do you guys think this is more of an SUV or more of a sedan? Because, to me, the idea of getting this car is more attractive than getting a 5 Series, but not quite as cool as getting an M5.

I think this is more of an SUV, personally. I don't know, I guess to me if a vehicle isn't close to the ground its not a car. Plus the presence the X6 gives off is more SUV than car.

Since its a BMW, I'm sure the experts will say making an SUV with ony 4 seats and no cargo space to improve handling is an ingenius idea, unlike the IS-F's stupid idea of having 4 seats and a real trunk in a sedan.

It amazes me how they managed to make the rear tires look too small for it's bulky back-end while the X5's looks fine. As long as the right badge is on it I guess the wheels could look like silver painted steelies for all the fobs care (i.e. 323i).

it's not an SUV. The X6 is about form over function. You don't buy an X6 so you can haul around a soccer team, you get one because it makes a statement and turns heads on the road. It's aimed at the guys who would have bought a Porsche Cayenne knowing in advance they'd never use it for anything remotely SUV-related. It's aimed at the guy who wants something unique that people will notice. The CLS, for example, is an impractical sedan for a car its size (like the X6 it only seats four, only the rear seats are claustrophobic) and yet people love it. That's what this is, only on a higher, more masculine body. It fits four young Wallstreet Type A guys and their golfclubs with total comfort, in a vehicle unlike anything else out there that they're guaranteed to be noticed in. Huu, I get that you don't like it, and not everyone will. But you're not their target demographic anyway.

Are you asserting that this competes with the Lexus IS-F, and that the IS-F has a larger trunk than this car?

This may not be a real SUV, but the X6's trunk will be as useful as any hatchback's.

How many cell phone holders do you suppose it comes equipped with? Are the cupholders large enough for bubble tea?

Rob,
It's a tall hatchback with no function whatsoever, it doesn't even have any ground clearance. BMW can't makes SUVs so the they brainstorm new names and invent segments nobody asked for.

and no, I'm not saying the IS-F competes with this (although I bet the IS-F would probably beat it hands down, even in a towing contest). I just remember when Lexus got crucified for taking out a seat, yet I'm sure BMW will get off scott-free for doing exactly the same, but in a vehicle that could use the extra seat.

The X6 is about more money than brains. It's probably aimed at "guys" who can't handle real SUVs because they might brake a nail.

kaiser,
I hope the trip's not too long, I doubt you can get luggage in there for more than 2 people. The 3-wagon makes more sense, but "sense" and BMW are pretty much mutually exclusive.

For once huu, I agree with you.
What is the point? This thing is just for people who need to justify their masculinity by buying an aggressive looking car, that lacks any purpose.

"I just remember when Lexus got crucified for taking out a seat"

By whom? I've never seen that once, and I haven't mentioned it a single time myself.

You still think everyone is conspiring against Lexus, don't you? LOL.

Huu...so bitter, How is that working out for you?

This vehicle will appeal to a certain market segment just like your overblown IS-F will...and you ranting about potential buyers suspect masculinity is beyond the pale given your favorite brands image.

NEXT.

Mercedes has had only modest success with the CLS which wrote the mathematical formula that the X6 is the product of.

The CLS is an E-Class that sacrifices functionality for more polarizing style and a higher price.

The X6 is an X5 that sacrifices functionality for more polarizing style and a higher price.

There is no reason to buy either of these vehicles over the ones they are based on except that you simply like it. I like the CLS, I do not like the X6.

"There is no reason to buy either of these vehicles over the ones they are based on except that you simply like it."

Which is, in essence, the reason for a luxury car. Nobody "needs" one. We all "want" one.

HMmmm... I remember you very nastily attacking me and several others when I made the same statement you just made in support as to why someone would buy the Lexus LS600hL.

Welcome to the light.

In the spirit of that argument, I will take your former position: "There's no reason to buy an X6 when the X5 already does it better."

I really do not care, I just do not like the X6 that much better than the X5.
