Another week, another recall.

This time, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles' (FCA) Jeep division is recalling over 200,000 units of the 2016 and 2017 Jeep Wrangler. Unlike some other recalls we've seen and even reported on, this one is of a grave nature.

That's because during a crash, wiring that is associated with the Wrangler's air bag may become loose. If that happens, the air bag will not deploy.

Obviously, this is a pretty compromising situation to find yourself in should you need that air bag.

According to FCA a very specific impact needs to happen in order to jostle the wires and as of today no one has been impacted by this hang up. The fault was discovered during Jeep's internal crash testing.

FCA has said that the company will reach out to owners and not to panic.

...Fiat Chrysler has issued a recall of over 224,000 Jeep Wrangler SUVs.

The cars included in the recall may not deploy an airbag upon impact, the Associated Press reports. Fiat Chrysler discovered that wiring in the vehicle may come loose during a crash, which would keep the airbags from inflating and prevent the seat belt pretensioners, which tighten the seat belt, from working as well.
The global recall affects 2016 and 2017 models, though none of the latter have been sold yet. While the company is not prepared to repair the problem at this point in time, Fiat Chrysler will soon contact the car owners to let them know when they can schedule an appointment at their car dealership. Repairs will be free of charge.

The issue with the airbags came to light during company crash tests. Luckily, it appears as if no customers have been affected considering no car owners have reported any related injuries or crashes...
