RECALL MONDAY: 90,000 Highlanders To Come Back For Faulty Seat Belts
Toyota Motor Corp is recalling 90,000 model year 2008 Highlander and Highlander hybrid sport utility vehicles due to potential problems with securing child safety seats in third row seats.

The locking mechanism on the seat belts apparently cannot secure properly when certain rear-facing child safety seats are used, which could cause the child seats to move, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported on Friday.

Just another RELIABLE product from Toyota. If this was any American company it would be front page news !!!

yeah but American car recalls usually deal with engine catching fire or the wheel falling off :)

So the seat belts that hold your butt in don't really matter?

Seatbelts that hold your babies in, no less.

I should explain "The locking mechanism on the seat belts apparently cannot secure properly when certain rear-facing child safety seats are used, which could cause the child seats to move".

of course, a seat belt problem is WAY worse than a wheel falling off resulting in the total demolition of the car and the people inside!

I just assumed we were still double counting Toyota recalls.

I'm pretty sure children are the only people who can fit into any 3rd row seat. It's not the seatbelt, it's one of the latches for an after market product.

Still doesn't change the article though.

Actually, I have a friend looking at the Highlander, and I went with them to the dealer--has a surprisingly spacious third row. I could fit without much hassle, although I'm only 5'9".

This coming from a Toyota customer. The fact is that Toyota/Lexus have as many recalls as every one else. It's the fact that nobody cares because they think that Toyota never breaks! Just great marketing on their part.
