RECALL TUESDAY: Audi Recalls 68,000 A6 Models For Faulty Nipples?
Volkswagen is recalling 68,240 Audi A6 vehicles due to faulty gas tanks. Specifically the recall affects 2001-'04 Quattro models with the 2.7-, 2.8- or 3.0-liter engines and 2001-'05 Allroad Quattro cars with the 2.7- or 4.2-liter engines.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the aging of the plastic material in the fuel tank combined with bending stress from the aluminum ventilation line to the rollover valve nipple "may lead to cracking of the nipple, and a fuel leak may result." If that happens, the agency stresses that a fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source could lead to the worst case scenario of a possible vehicle fire.

Audi enjoys a good car fire.

One of my friends was looking at getting an Audi. I told him to keep away and this is proof enough of their poor quality.

He's ordered a Lexus IS250 and I am sure he'll be very happy with it. No hassles and problems with it. Perfection.

Audi is best but I'm glad I just turned in my leased A6 Quattro as the warranty is now expired.

SMART people don't hang on to german cars, and ESPECIALLY vw/audi cars, once the warranty expires.

otoh, one of my toyotas is 2 years out of warranty, another 11 years. yet i have PERFECT peace of mind that i will just about NEVER have to worry about costly "issues."

Why not your usual comment about the company being deceiving? Oh, it's because it's not an Asian car company! You reserve your negative comments only for them. :-)

MichaelTaylor - you really are a Lexus twit. Recent quality surveys such as CR have placed Audis at the top of the list. Audi out does all the German brands in quality surveys. Stop making up BS to try to make Lexus look good. The GS isn't even recommended by CR. The new A6 trumps the GS in quality ratings and most other competitors in this class. There aren't boots big enough for your BS.

Um, where did you get that info from? The Lexus GS is hands down a better car than the Audi A6. Better interior and more reliable and it comes fully equipped. With an Audi or any European car for that matter you need to pay for the good stuff. Lexus gives you it free of charge.

That is going to be expensive to fix. Hope it doesn't trickle down to other models. Yikes!

I wonder why the earlier A6's (that model series came out in I think 1998) were not affected?

You guys could have at least put the contact information in here so people with the problematic cars could contact Audi . Here it is

from edmunds:

To fix the problem, dealers will reinforce the nipple on the rollover valve to help prevent leaking or cracking. The recall is expected to begin on May 30, and owners of the respected vehicles should contact Audi immediately at (800) 822-2834.

What this means to you: If you own an A6 that falls into this category, better stop by your local dealer.

yeah.. sure like, it does not happen to BMW, Benz or even recently... Lexus..
You guys make me laugh.
Audi has a recall, let's jump on it, but let us forget that our brand has problems too.
Audi has had a lot less recalls recently then the other manufacturers..

so what? did you prove a point, because I think I missed it.

the only problem I've seen with this is a CEL for an EVAP fault, but there is a possibility of a fire as stated so that's why there is a recall.

so you know bmwprincessdrvr, Audi does not make that part but a supplier does, and quality control does not prevent aging of a part that was not anticipated.
Plastic and rubber tend to be unstable materials anyway, his despite great care in their manufacturing.
And at least Audi did not ask their suppliers to cut expenses and be cheaper like BMW did earlier this year, wait for those BMW built with those parts to be recalled in a few years.

I am really sorry for your ignorance and foolishness.

As if Audi is the only company that has small recalls.

Retarded.

For instance, I typed in "BMW recalls" on Google and the second link that came up has a list of BMWs and the amount of recalls they have all had.

3 Series - 172
5 Series - 196
6 Series - 11
7 Series - 131
8 Series - 37
M3 - 2
M5 - 2
X5 - 26
Z3 - 11
Z4 - 5
Z8 - 2

same goes for pretty much any brand, your point being?
Because I was waiting for a more educated answer to my answer to your post about "that says a lot"
What are you trying to accomplish here ? Are you trying to tell us you don't like Audi, well I think we got that. But base on what?
Did you own one, did you work for Audi? Did you even drive one for more than a mile?
We are talking about cars here right?
So what do you know about cars?
Let me guess, you have been reading a lot, and your dad always told you that the BMW are the best, correct?
And as you can see, I did not single out any brand, Benz, lexus, Audi, BMW, all in the same basket.
You know why? Because nothing is perfect in this World, not you, not me, not your BMW, not my Audi.
If you have some driving experience, and depending on your tastes, and "the seat of your pants", and assuming you can make your own judgements and decision, than you can tell which brand or which car in a brand appeals to you.
For example, I absolutely love the Z8, probably not the best car ever built, but damn that thing is sexy.
So are we still talking about cars or are you still being just a fanboy?

The simple fact remains that Lexus quality can't be touched. Every carmaker has problems but Lexus has very few and when they do have problems they make sure these never come up again.

Lexus cares about their customers. The same cannot be said for other brands who are in it for the money and not keeping the customer happy.

oh yeah sure...
Toyota is pretty arrogant about their reliability and it took them months to admit that their cars are having a few problems lately.
There are quite a few pissed off Toyota/ Lexus owners,,
