Ever since Infniti teased us with the Emerg-e and Essence we've been waiting.
Waiting for the brand to wake up and do something about it already.
How can they show something so gorgeous and, frankly, amazing and then shoot itself in the foot?
Well, according to the latest rumors, the wait may be over soon. That's because the Japanese marque is starting to make some moves and figure out what it should do. Considering the Infiniti halo product will have to follow on the heels of the jaw-dropping Nissan GT-R, it will have to be good. VERY good.
According to the latest from U.K. auto pub Autocar, Infiniti is currently evaluating if the vehicle should be front- or mid-engined. Methinks that means they're working out if it should build a Lotus-based vehicle or a GT-R-like product. Also in the rumormill is that Red Bull Racing may become involved in the project — no confirmation yet.
One thing we know for sure at the moment is you won't see anything until 2017 or 2018. Infiniti knows that it has to gear up its more serious volume players before launching a supercar-like halo product.
Infiniti's halo supercar has been pencilled in for launch in 2017-2018, while the Nissan-owned luxury manufacturer decides whether it should have a front or mid-engined layout.
"We are still evaluating the layout," Infiniti's European boss, Fintan Knight, told Autocar. "It is still on the table for a decision. The same goes for the powertrain."
Infiniti previously showed the Essence and Emerg-e concepts to hint at how its supercar could look...
