REVIEW: 2007 BMW X5- Radical departure?
Thankfully, BMW stylists exercised a gentle hand when reshaping the sheetmetal of the X5, which BMW still insists on calling a “Sports Activity Vehicle” in spite of it being, for all intents and purposes, a Sport Utility Vehicle. Many of the styling cues of the X3 and 3-Series can be found on the new X5, which wears them relatively well, considering its substantial size. Speaking of size, the new X5 grows 2.4 inches in width and a surprising 7.4 inches in length—enough to accommodate an optional two-butt third-row seat—compared with the 2006 model. Read Article

It's actually quite nice. Except for the stupid headlights and the hood swoops a bit low (should've left it squared off), it's almost as nice as the last one.

Narry a sign of Bangle on it. I see a correlation there.

You know, have they ever thought about a M version of the X5. Like Merc has a AMG version of their SUVs. THe only High performance variant was a one off X5 with the Lemans winning V12.

Hmmm, not to take anything away from this X5, as it has managed to remain a good looking car.

Someone mentioned that they thought the new MDX's centre console was too wide. This X5 and the MDX both share split armrests and look to be equally wide. I wonder what that person would have to say about this.

The new X5 has grown on me too. And that interior is currently on of the best BMW interiors it appears. Have not seen it in reality yet, but it sure looks good. Now, time to apply this to the X3, 3 and 5-series...

I think they did a nice job on this one. IMO it looks better than the first one. I like that the dash doesn't have the double hump. Great looking interior.

The interior is very well finished, and what really makes it classy is the chrome strip under the wood trim-- it makes it look less-slab like, where the 5 Series, without the chrome, looks more "thrown on". It's a huge improvement for BMW, and the center console angled towards the driver brings to mind BMWs of the past. They're inching closer to Audi, but the new A4 and A8 will change that fast, I'm sure.

S4... you hit on it exactly! Good eye. That chrome strip makes all the difference. Something I've long noticed in BMW interiors (and some Audi's) with wood. I have had the distinct feeling the wood was just "floating" there on the dash, slapped on as you say. This is a lot better. Much classier. It's really a fine automobile, this X5. I almost wish I had a big family and needed all that room. :)

The new X5 drives pretty nice. BMW had a test drive session with the salesmen of our dealership a few weeks ago. I really like the new size, and everything seems like it is in the right spot. I suspect we are going to sell quite a few of these.
