REVIEW: New Jaguar XK

To me, it's no surprise that your car says a lot about your image.

That's why a certain amount of care must be exercised if you're thinking seriously about shelling out $75,000-plus for the redesigned 2007 Jaguar XK coupe, the latest descendant of the storied Jaguar E-Type and a controversial, if not tepid, offering that has been likened to everything from a glorified Ford Taurus to a poor man's Aston Martin DB7.

Think of the confusion that the XK's identity crisis could stir up with onlookers, not just at rest stops, but in your own driveway.

Very nice car. Does Jaguar have plans on giving its V8 more power anytime soon? I mean the SL has 380, the 650 has 360, Even the 911 has 325, the Vette is at 400. Why must Jaguar always ride on the tails of everyone else?

For 75K I would expect atleast 350BHP if not 400 out right. I would take the BMW over this for luxury or the Vette for fun.

Saw a British Racing Green XK coupe on the road today and actually thought it was a brand new Mitsubishi Eclipse when I saw only the headlights.

Honestly....I couldnt believe it.

This design lacks any emotion.

@Rupert...why should we have to get the XKR with the supercharged engine when everyone elses normally aspirated engines put out the same power? Thats retarded.

I'm predicting there'll be refreshing of the design in two years. This vehicle doesn't do it - front end needs a rework.

I test drove a gorgeous (Their word too) black coupe with 20" wheels. It's really not a bad car, especially when you consider the 0-60 in this 300hp model is as fast as the previous model XKR. Handles well, real nice engine sound and sharp from the rear view. As 001 implies though, for $75k ($85k optioned) you are approaching SL territory. The SL is worth the $95k, but I'm not sure the XK is worth the $75k. There's no panache, no head turning, no pizazz with the Jag. As mentioned above, unfortunately you could confuse the XK with a Mitsubishi. Adjust the front end (even with the Euro laws) and add 125 hp and then more heads will turn and cars will sell.

And I was about to ask the guy (older man), if that was the new Ford Taurus Coupe.<br>

I don't understand how someone can convince themselves that this car's front end is not like the Taurus, or that it better than it's competition.

Jay7, take a look at the last gen Ford Taurus front end and this this Jag, basically the same design, right down to the bar in the grille, except the Ford emblem is reblaced by the Jag head, some mag even ask the designer about that.

Rupert, 0-60 in 5.9 secs in not fast for a 75K sports car. Your in 911 territory now. The Mustang and 350 Z can do that in under 5.5 secs, and the Lexus IS350 ( 4 door sports sedan) can do that in under 5.5 secs ( 5.3)

A 0-60 time of 5.9 secs, with 300 HP is very disappointing for 75K. They are trying to sell the car on name alone. That plus some big rims are not going to bring people into the dealerships. What they need is new and very good product, one that can compete with the best offerings from Mercedes, Porsche, and BMW. And they need to get back to Le Mans. Why Ford treats Jaguar like the red-headed stepchild, I don't know.
