Readers Sound off: Doesn't mobile internet belong on your phone? BMW doesn't think so...
BMW plans on introducing mobile internet in their upcoming vehicles as part of their ConectedDrive package that they plan on offering in Europe and the US. The main reason for providing is due to consumer demand to consistently be connected to the net wherever they go. Do you think its safe? I mean sure, the driver can only use the net at 3 mph but won't this pose a hazard? What does the autospies community think about this?

Hmm, I don't think it would be very safe to use. Plus isn't there a law that doesn't allow the driver to have a display on his dashboard bigger than 4 inches or so. I forsee there being a lot of accidents. This is just another excuse to jack up the price of BMW's cars.

The whole set up seems like an accident waiting to happen. Its just another distraction in my eyes. Granted everyone has their own opinion I am just expressing mine.

I'd probably get this in a heartbeat! I can drive AND surf the net, what a great breakthrough. Now if only they can get to work on a car that makes food while you drive and possibly feed it to you... One can only dream right?

BMW would sell a lot more cars and improve safety for all if they could figure out how to put a device in the car that puts makeup on over half their ownership while driving. The world would be a much safer place. SAVE THE PLANET BMW!

Hey! That's actually a good idea! I wonder who would be the first to sue BMW for misapplied make-up.

what are you talking about? bmw drivers are probably the best in the world. next to ferrari drivers. thats why bmw will be giving their drivers the privilege to surf porn while driving!

Who's sitting stationary in a BMW long enough to warrant the mobile internet option, let alone in any car long enough? I hardly find anytime to use the navigation in my wife's car.
Plus, haven't people been fined for accessing wireless routers without permission? I'm not referring to public access wifi.

The internet portion will be a monthly service. The European price for the service is equivalent to $23 US dollars a month.

Like the title suggests, this is the wrong direction. I have an iPhone with all access to the internet including navivation and real time traffic. The latest versions of mobile phones have GPS on them now, mobile TV, etc.
I see built in nav systems going the way of the car phone in a few more years. Certainly builtin internet access is redundant and unncessary. The screen will be there in the future, but it will be driven by your own mobile device with a bluetooth linkup. This way, when you get out of the car, you take the functionality with you in your pocket (just like phone service today).

Wasn't BMW going to integrate the iPhone on their cars? That would be easier.
