Recall Friday: Acura Places 273,000 Wanted Posters Out For TL Models
Honda Motor Co. issued two separate recalls for its Acura TL sedan Friday to address potential fires under the hood and fix problems with the windshield wiper motor.

Honda said it was recalling 273,000 2004-2008 TLs because prolonged high temperatures underneath the engine hood could cause the power steering hose to deteriorate, causing the hose to crack and leak power steering fluid.

The automaker said the fluid could leak onto a hot catalytic converter and lead to smoke and a possible fire. Acura spokesman Mike Spencer said there had been no fires or injuries reported. In the second action,

Honda said it was recalling 129,600 TLs from the 2004-05 model year to address a potential failure of the circuit breaker inside the windshield wiper motor.

Now, this one is a shocker for me! You don't hear the words "Honda" and "recall" in the same sentence very often.

EL34, why did you not make the same comment yesterday when BMW and MB were named in a lawsuit? To me, that is more deceiving. Being proactive and issuing a recall, even if the potential problem has not manifested in any injuries, is not being deceiving at all. It is being smart and attentive to your customers.

Oh why don't you guys stop your whinin' and get your cars to the dealer so they fix them?

Looks like Acura won'r be making Consumer Reports best autos.

Sad to see this and it is a bad thing. However, few car markers are flawless in this regard and we need to look at the average number of recalls over a period of 3-5 years to get a reasonable idea of the true picture. On that score, Honda, Lexus/Toyota come out well, but they have undeniably had a few slip-ips lately and it is vital they tackle these quality issues agressively, otherwise they will end up in the same predicament that MB found itself in around 10 years ago: upping model selection and production numbers at the expense of quality.

I think the new Honda's have become cheaper in quality lately. I notice some mis-assembled parts in the Acura as well. Seems to be going down the GM-Toyota way.

The key here is the fact that Honda/Acura owners have not been reporting these issues. Therefore, people with brains can conclude that Honda/Acura is doing this as a pre-emptive, preventative measure. As it states in the article, no fires were reported. And it states "potential" windshield motor failure.

And the proof is in the pudding. Anyone I know who owns any Honda/Acura rarely, if ever, report any problems. Including myself who has owned 2 Acuras and 1 Honda and my sister who owned a Honda.

Jap fanboys have been attacking German car's Recalls and reliability for years. What planet have been living on?

Now the Tables have turned. And I must say deservedly so. for pushing lame, Honda-based, fwd appliances on the public for the last 20 years.

Macker83, just because someone likes German cars doesn't make them a nazi lover.
Thats like saying that Japanese car fans are nip-loving, war-criminal loving, monkey-style-loving, schoolgirl porn loving people.

When I said jap fanboys I meant fans of Japanese cars. I thought that was obvious since we are talking about German Cars and Japanese cars. But you are so quick to pull the race-card that you failed to comprehend the context.

I should have never said it that way. For that I apologize. But you are just as foolish for thinking that we are talking about something other than cars and pulling the race card so damn quick. There were better ways that you could have corrected me.

German fans have there panties in a bunch fact is this is a preventive recall, unlike Audi's and Bimmers that catch on fire during testing. Or unlike any German product that 2 months down the road you are back at the dealer for some reason or another. Huh German Engineering more like German "Junk".

This is the best way to do a recall...before anyone is hurt! Some people just like to see their words in print and like to hear themself talk. Acura is doing the responsible thing and fixing a potential problem before their is a real problem. They should be commended and deserve their spot in consumer reports as best buys and recommended buys.

Every maker is having problems with hoses as of late.

How about this one? It's not BMW's product but since they chose them, should BMW not be paying for the entie replacement?

BMW tire recall program for run flat

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I just got off the phone with my local dealer. Our 2006 325xi wagon with the sport package is in for service at 16,000 miles. We had them check the run flat tires (lots of noise, etc). The rep called and said that BMW is having problems with the stock Bridgestone tires. BMW has a program to replace the tires, where they pay for two of the four tires. You have to pay all the labor. The new tires are Continental. Two tires with labor is about $470 (sound steep to anyone else?). "

BMW charging $500 to Canadians buying cars in the US. Its all about not wanting to lose out on inflated Canadian prices perhaps. I understand though, with the new 1 series coming out, BMW needs the money.
