Ford Motor Co is recalling nearly 1.2 million vehicles, including certain F-450 and F-550 Super Duty trucks. The recall was made because a faulty sensor could cause the vehicles' engines to stall.

The recall covers Ford F-450 and F-550 trucks with 7.3-liter diesel engines, Excursion sport-utility vehicles and E-Series vans from model years 1997 through 2003, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Ford produces the Ford F-450 and F-550 at its Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville and produced the Excursion at the plant before the vehicle was discontinued in September 2005.

According to the NHTSA, dealers will replace faulty sensors free of charge beginning Dec. 17. Owners can contact Ford at (866) 436-7332. The recall number is 07S57.
