Recall Wednesday: Toyota Recalls 470,000 Japanese Vehicles
Toyota recalled 470,000 vehicles in Japan Wednesday for engine, steering and motor problems in the latest sign of growing quality problems as the automaker embarks on ambitious global growth.
None of the recalled models were exported, Toyota Motor Corp. said. There were no reports of accidents related to the defects, but more than 300 problems were reported, it said.
President Katsuaki Watanabe has repeatedly cautioned about the need for more vigilance in product quality as the Japanese manufacturer of Camry sedans and Lexus luxury models boosts production to meet demand.

What did I say about companies getting too big to maintain quality? It happened to GM...
I'm glad Honda has such a good balance of quality and size. They are a superb company.

Get some originality EL, anyways, 300 recalls is still better than the BMW 5.
VW suffers from the same parts sharing problem, outsourcing has VW recalling 1 million cars within the last year.
Looks good on Toyota though, embarassement will set the Japanese straight.

Toyota should focus more on qualty than on quantity.
Not only the recalls (reliability) but the used technologies - materials, NAVI... - (perceived quality) experesses the wrong strategy of Toyota.

EL34 is right. All the guys like LexusKing were probably brought up on video games made by the Japs. As a result these guys have been brainwashed into believing that rice burners rule. He's probably too young to remember the Toyota/Lexus quiet recall of the 3.0L V6 for design problems leading to sludge buildup. They tried to deceive people that did not get their oil changed at the dealership and lost the subsequent class action lawsuit. The quality myth is unraveling for all the Jap mfrs. Their cars are like a BIC pen, disposable. Outside of the 1967 Toyota 2000GT they have never had any value as desirable collector cars.
