Record demand for "young pre-owned" Mercedes vehicles

Hmmmm so why is that, is it because people don't like the new models or is it because people can finally afford a benz. I am actually thinking of buying a old benz, maybe 95-97 C 280, but I guess is is referring to the 2000+ models.

Definitely.

Two of my female friends have both bought Mercedes cars. 2000 and 2004 models, the interesting thing is that they are both 18 years old. I believe that there is a revolutionary change going on. Young folks are turning away from civics and corollas and going for more luxury cars.

Thanks to Will for being a world class dickhead again and messing up another thread for everyone. MBZ will need to make their CPO warranty better than 12 months. I think BMW is 2 years as is Toyota.

whats the advantage to buying a used C-class to a used Honda Civic? its certainly not because of the higher quality or reliability. The appeal may be there but lest face it young people are mostly concerned with their image, how people perceive them.

and i would get a c-class if i were looking for something with an automatic transmission. the c-class is not of higher quality than a civic? that's ripe.

are you telling stories or what? the lexus gs was not available in the states til 93'. so unless you lived in some other country this sounds fishy. and your family gave you the 86' 300e, after which you promptly bought a 91' gs300?

your continually talking about getting the new LS when it comes. what do you really drive? have you ever even driven a lexus? do you still drive the hand me down 300e?

will, nobody is interested in your personal life. it's just that there seemed to have been some holes in what you have said. i would definately remember the fist car i purchased. especially if it was barely 10 years ago as you claim. and at that i'm not even sure i believe you bought the lexus in 94'.

The Civic outclasses the C-Class in every way except "prestige." I totally agree with Marcus!

Drive the C-Class first, then comment. You're basing your already narrow minded views of reviews or whatever.

I agree that the original current C-Class wasn't a good effort on MB's part, but when they facelifted it, the car turned into the vehicle it should have been from the start. I've driven a few of these as rentals in Europe and they're great cars. Solid construction, refreshed interior, actually fun to drive now and still comfortable. Also, the car is more sporty now.

poor 17 year old with the 300e!!! how much fun did you have with that?

i would definately take toyota/lexus quality over chrysler!!!

so the lexus quality hasn't been compared to the germans, it's just been a case of it being there for you all along, that there would be no real reason to jump ship. completely understandable.

my first car was a 1987 gmc jimmy (full-size. 350" v-8)

i moved on to a 1989 mb 190e 2.6 for a few years, and drove it into the ground

then got a 1995 mb e320. it got totalled.

and now i've got the 95' 5-series.

new job, new $$$ is near. i will be a mechanical engineer in the spring

and merc has that in spades. do you think i care about reliability? no.
oh and news: i'm going to sell the rangie and buy something like a polo, golf or clio.
i won't be able to afford to fuel the rangie.

Oh now I really feel sorry for Will. Having driven Lexoyota and Chrysler his whole life no wonder he's so favorable when it comes to Lexoyota. It's only obvious that he never drove anythin else so has no slighest idea bout different brands.

they're not that unreliable.
unreliable is too strong a word.
they don't have many glitches. lexus has like 1 fewer per year.

I thought Chyrsler is Mercedes or vice versa. The new Chrysler crossfire has a Mercedes engine in it. So who in their earlier post said "i would definately take toyota/lexus quality over chrysler!!!". Just my curiosity.

will, actually, all the german cars i have owned were quite reliable. the most significant expense i have come across was replacing the windshield wiper motor on the 190e. otherwise just routine maintenance. and both benzes went well over 200k miles.

if i was never told by others that the germans were considered less reliable, i would never have known. in fact, i'm still not sure how true it really is.

the other myth i came across was about the high cost of parts for the german cars. everyone tried to scare me away from buying german cause i would be bankrupt after a tune-up.

this may have been more true 20 or 30 years ago when there just weren't as many german cars on the road. also, i think the internet has aided in the international distribution of parts.

take a look at o.e. part pricing for a mid-size domestic and mid-size geman car. the difference in prices were way less than i expected for most parts.

and i don't know what kind of car i will get when i finish school. i like the 7-series alot. particularly with the "star spoke style 95" wheels. 19" rim, classy and sporty alike. i would lean toward a 5-series though due to manual transmission, the exterior styling, lighter car, and more efficient. the 535i that's on it's way looks good.

but if i was willing to go back to an automatic transmission, i would look towards infiniti m45 or mercedes e-class. of coarse i would test drive a lexus, audi, jaguar....and so on.

rupert, unreliable is WAY too strong to describe them. these cars are being talked about like their a mitsubishi or something.

ssp350, yes, chrysler is now owned by daimler (benz). which is really bizzare for me. i've always hated chrysler, and now i think daimler is doing some good things with them. most important being reintroduction of affordable, roomy, rwd sedans!!! i am ashamed of gm for not having these. a part of my nation's manhood is missing.

chrysler and benz aren't all that close though. i guess the 300c, magnum, and charger are based off of last gen. e-class platform. i don't know how much chrysler really has axcess to.

Several reasons for this:
1) MB actually made quality cars during this period, unlike current offerings,
2) Because MB's recent cars are built so shoddily, the older MB's resale value has plummeted, thus making the older MB's a good buy.
3) Pendulum effect of the young demographic. MB used to be "old man's car", but now it has a different perception in the marketplace among young buyers. Partly because MB's performance explosion has helped change image, and partly just a generational thing. Since this generations parents are down on MB, the kids think highly of it.
