Remember rumore about Über-CLS from Maybach, now here is the rendering!
In a previous article (http://www.autospies.com/news/ber-CLS-may-be-next-from-Maybach-14717/) from AutoMobileMagazine, there was a rumour about Maybach adding a car to the line-up based on the Mercedes CLS, priced around $225,000.
Now here is a picture I found in a german magazine talking about a similar idea.
So what you guys think (although it has the Mercedes Logo, it looks more like A Maybach)?

I don't understand Maybach, they look almost identical to a Benz, only cost 3x as much. They need to be original body designs for the price they charge, not a makeover of a Benz. I do love the CLS however, just don't see why a Maybach version would be necessary.

"Remember rumore about Über-CLS from Maybach, now here is the rendering!"

That car as the Mercedes hood ornament. The photochop uses the S-Class as its basis- not the CLS.

I know many will think I am full of it, but Jag needs to expedite the process with the new XJ. The basic structure of it will be similar to the car above: rather large rectangular grill light housings that are larger toward the body edge. Those lines of LED lights near the lower front are in some of the renderings.

You know, Mercedes admits that the CLS was created to compete with Jaguar, or rather in my opinion, to take the customers from Jaguar that felt dissapointed with the 2004 re-design of the XJ. That re-design is when the XJ lost its lower stance- the proportions of this "four door coupe" uselessness have existed at Jaguar since 1968. Outside similarities are just the bigining, the interior of the CLS is non-Germanic. There is a fairly large amount of wood in the cabin, and there is also a fair amount of exposed leather stitching on the dash and throughout.

I am afriad that as more cars that are poportioned this way come to market, the new XJ which is to return to the previous proportional scheme, will become relegated to the ordinary. I truly think that the 2004 XJ will be viewed as one of the worst and most idiotic mistakes Jaguar ever made in their history. They sor to forfeit one of their greatest strengths to the rest of the world.

I have wanted to say the above for a while, but didn't know where to say it.

"S-Class as its basis- not the CLS."

I should take that back, there is some CLS in there, but the body itself is from the S-class.

You people are all very ignorant.
Thats CLEARLY a Mercedes RENDERING (a terrible attempt at one too). IT USES A MERCEDES GRILLE. The Maybach grille has vertical lines. Im staking my life on the Maybach not looking anything like this.

Not to offend anyone here but, isn't the Maybach is an over price MB anyway. Why would anyone pay $300K + for an MB when you can get the RR's Phantom.

Anyway, I love the new MB CLS, it got be one of most sexy I have seen on the streets.

You guys are forgetting...

Isnt the Phantom an overpriced BMW???? It is owned and made by BMW.

It uses a BMW engine, it has idrive (really it does)...lots of stuff.
I think if I wanted a limo it would be the Maybach for me. It is the ultimate limo, however if there was even a slight chance I would drive it myself, a Bentley Arnage RL. I think the Phantom is just a tad ostentatious.

It is acutally quite funny that if you want a Rolls-Royce Engine anymore you have to buy a Bentley. The engine that was recently put into the Arnage is an old Rolls-Royce engine- its true.

The Rolls-Royce system is not exactly I-drive. The climate controls for the RR are the old styled horizontal dials and are not integrated into that system.

I've never been impressed by Maybach. They are just sort of there. I will say that some of the Art Deco detailing is particularly neat, and some of the technologies [lighting] are particularly unique.

When the Rolls-Royce came out- I HATED it. I thought it was a horrendous German bastardization of an English car and absolutely detested it. Through time, I have conme to find it charming in a quaint sort of way. The tiping point for me was a conversation of had with a nice Englishman at the Jaguar/Aston Martin/Rolls-Royce dealership here and he really set me straight in some ways. I have also come to realize that the reason that it look SO ostentatious is that nothing more than a modernized very classic and very old Rolls-Royce design. It sticks out like a sore thumb simply because cars are no longer made to look anything like that. I would own one, I wouldn't let other know I had it. I would own it simply to possess it. For beinhg such a behemouth it is such a quaintly charming car for some reason.

The Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead is my personal favorite at the moment, of ultra-luxury cars. It's unbelievably perfect in every detail. The Continental GTC, which is much sexier than the coupe in person, has a close second.

As for sedans... I don't find any of them particularly impressive. Maybach looks like a big Mercedes, Phantom is "blah" next to the Phantom Drophead and Arnage needs a redesign.

It´s not a Maybach, it´s a Mercedes called Vision CLR. It´s based on the Mercedes S-class and has a special roof (and maybe 850HP??).

Someone should translate the last part of the article.

I'm not convinced! Far more convincing is a production version of Cadillac's Sixteen Concept from the 2003 Detroit Autot Show! Even four years after it's debut, it is still the one to beat!
