Rendering of Audi's R4 Cayman rival
Many believed talk of Audi’s future mid-engined Cayman rival was pure fantasy but then details about the carmaker’s future lineup were published by Quattro Quarterly (a publication released by the Audi Club of North America) and one of the cars on that list was in fact the long rumoured R4. Set to appear in June 2011, the new R4 will get its own unique platform capable of spawning both coupe and roadster variants.

Like the R8, the new R4 will feature aggressive styling and will only be able to seat two.

hope they're still planning on mounting that engine in the back...

sounds great. bmw and benz could use mid engine sports cars too.

that image looks a bit like r8 features grafted to an eclipse via photoshop.

man I was hoping it would start in the low 40's but if it's a cayman competitor it will be up there. Z4 M is still the best bang for the buck.

This article is not completely accurate, the rendering is just that, a rendering...
However it is almost certain that the R4 will exist but the platform will also be used for the next Cayman/Boxster

Hey Donald.

Good job stealing images and watermarking them as your own. You constantly do this. STOP. Pay for your own renderings. Assh*le

I'm guessing Donald is Agent001 and you work for Motor Authority/Schulte design?
May I just say that this was a user-submitted article and any pictures in those articles are automatically Autospies watermarked upon submission.

It sounds fantastic, but I can't say I love that photoshop. I know Audi will do better, seeing as they're the makers of the TT and R8--this sports car will slot in between, and will probably look like a combo of both.

I find it funny that Porsche is sharing its platform with a company that's making a direct competitor.

The concept, the design, stunning.... The idea of turning it into a 2 seater... why? You'd be surprised how many people will stop considering a car because of it being just a 2 seater. This will also take it out of direct compition against the M3, C63 and IS-F, and put it into the SLK55, M-CP/RDSTR, and Cayman catagory... I say stretch the platform 4 more inches and make it a 2+2, then you'll have a hell of a car

do you realize it's a mid engined car?

Yeah... but still... to have the balance.. but give up the seats... I'm sure there is a way. Thats why i said 2+2 vs a 4 seater, that way, it's still conceivable?

The RS4 and RS5 are already in the M3/C63/IS-F market. This car will be built with the Cayman in mind--its 2-seater configuration isn't an accident.

The TT coupe is also a 2+2, although the rear seats aren't habitable. But if this car was also a 2+2 they would be ridiculously close in price, spec and market position.
