Rolls Royce RR4 "Baby Phantom" Spied in Germany
Rolls Royce RR4 “Baby Phantom Spy Photos”

Our spy in Germany was cruising in Munich when his camera came across one serious prototype test car: the “Baby Rolls Royce Phantom.” These are the latest snapshots of the blacked out and camouflaged baby Rolls. Codenamed the RR4, it is sure to be the hottest luxury vehicle to hit the streets. Imagine the current Rolls Royce Phantom and then shrink it down to size and you have the new Rolls “RR4.” Actual dimensions of the new vehicle are unknown at this point.

Lets be clear though that there is nothing baby about the price of this vehicle as it is speculated to be priced between the yet to be released, redesigned BMW 7 Series and the Rolls Royce Phantom. Edmunds.com has noted that the price will come in between $250,000 and $280,000 via information given out by Rolls Royce executives. There is still not much information out there on this new Rolls but we have heard that its platform will be based on the new 7 Series that is currently in development. In that price range you can expect the Rolls Royce to be in direct competition with the Bentley Continental Flying Spur. Speculation in regards to engine details points to the possible dropping of the twin turbo V8 being launched in the upcoming BMW X6. We are not sure what we are more excited for, the new BMW 7er or this RR4.

I agree. BMW is really displaying its design "chops" with the Rolls-Royce brand. They're making all the right decisions on body styles that should've been copied by Daimler's Maybach. The baby Phantom built on the 7-series platform is fairly smart considering how diffferent the exterior will be from the BMW flagship.

I don't doubt that this vehicle will be fairly popular is amoung a range of potential consumers.

I assume this is a move by Rolls Royce to compete with cars like the LS460 and LS600h, S class and A8 and others?

This RR will compete with the Bentley Continental Flying Spur.

The S and A8 maybe even those these two are a far better value. RR does not consider Lexus a competitor although Lexus may have hallucinations to the effect that they are competing in the RR arena.

It's funny you say that because the new Hyundai Genesis does have the Lexicon audio system which is currently used by Rolls Royce.

The news of a baby phantom brings a harmonious ring to my hears. Will they be twin turbo v8 or v12 rings though? I have heard that it may receive a detuned v12 from the big brother phantom. the v8 twin turbo from the X6 would also be one amazing engine in this automobile. Check out these weight statistics.

X6:

Weight- 4983 with v8 (twin turbo)
0-60: approx 5.4

Rolls Royce Phantom
Weight : 5798 with V12
0-60 :5.7 Seconds

now imagine a baby phantom (less weight) with the V8 twin turbo: should yield nice performance figures , better gas mileage , and nice sounding machine as well.

I disagree amazinBimmer -- Bentley owns this segment and RR does not have a hope in hell of killing Bentley. If Maybach could get its act together and start producing 4-valve-per cylinder DOHC engines instead of those miserable 3-valve SHOC engines, it could survive also. I'm betting on the next-generation Arnage to win all the marbles.

What the hell are you talking about? Bentley sells 10X as well as R-R and is probably even profitable! The next step is an Arnage overhaul.

its size and proportions look right. and i have no reason to doubt the build and details. this should be a hit.

maybe this will inspire the idiots at bugatti to get off their asses and build a more accessible car as well.

Well, then it would compete with Bentley and Lamborghini and Porsche!

yes, but it would no longer be a nearly worthless exercise in engineering. it's a make believe car. they may as well have just made a clay concept and had some artists do a cgi video of it speeding around a track, then blasting of into outer space to fight alongside voltron.

ok, i got carried away...

my point is, a car this expensive should ACTUALLY showcase what great engineering achievements have been brought together to make it. it won't be in any motorsport. it will sit in the garage of an oil baron.

bugatti is to great a name to only make cars that go directly from the factory to a museum.

i'm not suggesting they make a civic competitor, but it wouldn't hurt to offer something that could be a ferrari alternative.

and why purchase a sports car company if your so worried about it competing with other cars of yours? lamborghini competes with porsche, and i don't think anyone would argue that its a bad thing.

Perhaps Bugatti could make a normal supercar? You know, SLR/Pagani price range. That wouldn't compete with any Porsche, Bentley or Audi. And it would only slightly compete with the Lambo, and since Lambo are now so much more hardcore, there wouldn't be much overlap at all.

Who here has actually sat in a Murcielago? You could not drive it everyday - I think Bugatti could continue to make everyday supercars.

"Who here has actually sat in a Murcielago?"

I have. Of course before I sat in it I hit my head on it and put my foot in its dash...but I did even get into the vehicle.

I literally fell into it - I was trying to get at least 1 leg in, and then I fell. I had to crawl out on my hands and knees. And the whole car feels as wide as a bus.

Maybe the second decent product out of BMW in its history? Now that they have the English to show them what style is and how a car should ride their engineering ability can be put to some actual use! Well besides entertaining idiots that is... Well they can alway switch over to WWF and Gery Springer for a moment while the RR takes the stage at BMW.

S4... RR is way more profitable.. the damn car sells for over 2X what the (Phaeton driven) Bentley sells. In the world of profitability, the Rolls would dominate. (Bentley makes about 20-40K per car.. rolls makes 150-200K per car...). but why would anyone understand that.

I don't think you understand the meaning of profitability.

You just pulled those numbers out of your ass, but the fact that Bentley sells so many more cars than R-R is what makes it a much more profitable brand as a whole.

In fact, I would be surprised if BMW made any money off Rolls at all. They're probably at a loss. Fortunately, they can afford to be.

hahaha. you must have 2 assholes.. extra one to pull those useless audi and bentley (VW) facts from. I do know a little of what i speak, probably much to your chagrin. the roundel co are clients and as such i know quite bit. Please dont let that disturb your fact -pullin-from-the-ass routine though. Now tell me how great the FWD platform is.. haha

So, you're not going to admit you made up the Bentley numbers, but you'll "admit" BMW is a client?

Alright, whatever you say, you are superior, I bow down, you have a 528i, wow.

If Rolls-Royce intends for this "Baby Phantom" to compete with the Bentley Continental Flying Spur, and they price the car for $250,000-$280,000 - Rolls-Royce in in BIG, BIG trouble!

To begin with, the 2008 Bentley Continental Flying Spur retails for just under $174,000 - well below the $250k-$280k price range of the new "small" Rolls.

Even though the current "big" Rolls Phanton is 21 inches longer, 3 inches wider, and 6 inches higher than the Bentley Flying Spur, the Bentley has more legroom and shoulder room (front & rear), and a bigger trunk. Granted, the Rolls has 3.4 inches more front headroom & 0.7 inches more rear headroom, but I could fit in the Bentley just fine, in both the front and the rear seats - and I'm 6'4" tall and long-waisted!

I have sat in both the current Phantom and the Flying Spur, and the interior materials and craftsmanship in both cars are magnificent.

As far as performance is concerned, the Flying Spur easily beats the current Phantom in acceleration, braking and handling.

I rest my case.

P.S. - The Flying Spur's AWD will further enhance this car's advantage over the baby Phantom when driving in rain or snow.
