Rumor: Leno and Seinfeld may host NBC’s Top Gear
Honestly we were pretty disappointed to learn that NBC will be debuting its own version of Top Gear with a completely new cast. I mean what is Top Gear without Clarkson’s wit, Hammond’s excitement and May’s… May’s… umm well just May? But now rumor has it that NBC could be taking the American version of Top Gear in a more “celebrity direction,” and we’re pretty excited about who they may have in mind.

Originally BBC had started calling several automotive writers and on-camera automotive journalist to give the new show a more “journalist credibility.” NBC then decided to they’d rather have more celebrity presence on the show...

Awwww Man! You got me on that one. You are spot on.

Leno and Seinfeld are about as automotive as an Aztec. This will just be another wasted opportunity to have an American program for automotive enthusiasts.

All need is another Chopper show invoving cars...

Top Gear is the greatest show ever. I hope we don't embarrass ourselves by trying to copy it. The US version should go its own direction. Leno is the perfect choice, not sure about Jerry though.

jerry is a porschephile, he'll do ok. it's not like he's gonna invite michael richards to do standup or anything.

I think before he moved back to New York, Jerry was renting out an airplane hangar in LA for his crazy-big Porsche collection.

Both Seinfeld and Lena would be great as they really know their cars. Seinfeld is a Porsche fanatic and Leno is a automotive hobbyist. That makes them both great in my book

dug it is right on regarding coporate sponsors will likely dictate the humor/non-biased opinions. Personally i think Leno would be great at these reviews, so long as he is allowed to be honest with the product he is reviewing.

Jay Leno!!!

Yay, he deserves it! and his love for cars aside the fact he has one of the largest car collections in the country (examples of which can be seen in events like the prestigious Pebble Beach Concours D'Elegance)Give him a good sense of credential and critique.

Seinfeld Im not too sure.

America needs a show of this type regardless of who hosts it. just pick any random reality show spot, and replace it with this.

I think they are both good choices as they both know a lot about cars. However, I wonder how their styles will interact in the studio on an episode to episode basis. One of the things I really like about Top Gear is Jeremy's smug bastard attitude about everything and the comradery between the hosts. The last thing I would want is for our Top Gear to be the Tonight Show, guest staring "Jerry Seinfeld and these great cars!"

The thrid person they need to put on the show would be Jean Jennings.

She is funny as hell and not only is she a test driver herself, as AUTOMOBILE magazine's Editor-in-chief...she may know a thing or two about cars.

She could be the Jeremy Clarkson of the bunch.

Alright, I sounds like I recieved a second and it looks like some other people agree also. So I will put together a pettition to promote Jean as one of the next members for Top Gear US.

Also for those who want to see her on TV...look at the most recent (I believe it was NBC but it could have been ABC or CBS) 2 hour review of the Detroit Auto Show, that aired last week. She is the sarcastic red head expert being interviewed.

Just fired off the request letter to NBC.

Anyone know how to contact the Jean? The Automobile magazine website dosen't have a 'contact us' option.

Actually my e-mail to NBC just got kicked back as not recognizing the address.

Anyone know where to send e-mail to NBC?

This is getting difficult, but I shall soldier on for a show like Top Gear deserves no less.

Jay is an enthusiast, but you are right on about respecting Jeremy for becoming a celebrity for that reason. He is already at the next level.

Jay is a good choice for this show, as everyone in the states knows he is into automobiles. If they had a traditional, non-celebrity enthusiast host the show, it would look too much like a rip-off.

I don't see this show competing against top gear, I see it as a totally different animal.

I don't care what you call it. I can't help but respect a man with not only more than one Duesenberg, but the Duesenberg that was onwned by Evalyn Walsh McLean. Among her other possesions were...oh...little things like the Hope Diamond and the Star of the East.

"There's a big difference in being a rich celebrity who loves cars and someone who loves cars and becomes a celebrity for that reason (Clarkson)." Great way of putting it and I couldnt agree more.

I would rather have the real top gear from UK in HD.

If they do a US version I think Jay Leno could be a decent choice if they do decide to walk that plank. Sienfeld would be a complete no imo. I think top gear has a very unique style and character base that would be very hard to replicate. If they came up with a more original idea they could have something.

BUT! I think Simon Cowell can be the sarcastic guy.

So US version top gear all star cast; Jay Leno, Simon Cowell, and Pat (from It's pat). ;)

I love Top Gear on BBC
Leno's a really funny guy in person (Pebble Beach comes into mind)
Jerry is the right guy for a sarcastic car show

I can imagine some really interesting guests:
Bill Gates the Porschearistocrat
Jay-Z the DUB guy
Mel Gibson the reckless driver
Paris Hilton the it gal
tons more

It WILL be a fun show for sure

Leno and Seinfeld are fine. Add Newman to do the driving.

Also - I can't wait for the celebs to get timed on the track... can you envision Brittney Spears? Why not if it's about laughs.
