Rumor: Mazda RX-7 Concept coming to the Tokyo Motor Show

Wouldn't that being going backwards, they are on the RX-8 right now.

The RX-7 in its last generation was a great car, despite the issue with the wearing internally, the Wenkel (sp?) is a great design for power output vs. size. The new RX-8 to me was kinda a disappointment. It wasn't as catchy in looks, it didn't come off as sporty enough, and was not very well promoted compared to say the 350Z.

I own both a RX-8 and a FD RX-7. I love both cars but both have their own pros and cons. The 7 lacks room and motor reliability,but easily outpowers the rx8 (my rx-7 is the turbo version) the rx8 however stock vs stock,has an overall smoother motor,gearbox and suspension setup.So saying the rx-8 was a step backwards is definately incorrect.

I think Mazda should go back to the RX-7 name. Maybe get rid of the hyphen (the way Chevy differentiates between 1st gen ZR-1 and the current ZR1), just in case they want to be cute with it. What Mazda needs to also remember is that a high-revving, low-torque engine doesn't work very well in a car that is too large or too grown up. If you have to run the engine to 10,000rpm all the time you had better be selling it to people who can see this car as an alternative to a Hyundai Genesis coupe, or perhaps slightly undercut the Camaro/Mustang/Challenger set. Pricing it up into 370Z/G37 territory is asking for trouble. I say make the next RX7 no bigger than the RX-8, but get rid of the rear seat (and obviously the rear doors) lighten it as much as possible (to improve the power-to-weight ratio) and put a small, light pressure supercharger on it (for low-down torque), and maybe an additional light pressure turbocharger for high rpm boost (VW does it with their Euro-spec Golf 1.4TSI). Anything less than 300hp in the sports car arena is asking for trouble.

At rxh8me9000 you dont own a damn fd, all fd are turbo, unless the owner pulled it out. fc's and before that's another story.
