Rumor: Next Skyline GT-R to have Infinti badging?
We hope this isn’t true but, according to AutoWeek, a photographer taking shots while the new GT-R was in testing says he overhead a conversation between two Nissan workers that were calling the GT-R the “Infiniti Skyline GT-R.” At the last NY Auto Show, Ghosn, CEO of Nissan, said that the next GT-R will carry the tradition of being badged under Nissan, after which many Infiniti dealers were angry by the news.

For now just enjoy the spy shots and await the arrival of the GT-R at the Tokyo Auto Show. Just cross your fingers for the Nissan badging.

"Just cross your fingers for the Nissan badging"???

why bother creating infiniti if it's not your high end brand? or maybe infiniti could get a restyled v8 variant?

It has been said it is highly unlikely to badge it as Infiniti.

and it will be called GTR w/o Skyline name.

“Infiniti Skyline GT-R.” will be so confusing as G35 is a Skyline in Japan .infiniti and nissan normally dosent use the same name as in japan. bcoz American perfer calling by brands.

btw , to badge it as infiniti , they must put the noise level low enough too.

It'll be INFINITI GT-R in US, Taiwan, and Middle East.
Case rested.

I think it fits better with Nissan, too.
It would be a very awkward Infiniti.

I disagree about the sportyness. Nissan is true basic sporty, but Infiniti is sporty becase of the technology they pack in it.

I don't really what care if they call the Nissan GT-R or Infiniti Skyline GT-R. As long as they bring it to the U.S.

Subject: Infiniti GT-R, just rumors?

Dear VP Simon Sproule:

I know in the past we have beat the issue of whether the new GT-R
will called a Nissan or Infiniti.
Both you and CEO Carlos Ghosn have 'confirmed' that the next GT-R will
be a Nissan. Being an Infiniti enthusiast, I didn't agree, but I
respected and accepted the decision.
And I know last time we corresponded, you told me that there are are
always rumors floating around the internet.

Well in case you didn't know, the latest rumor is that the GT-R might
be called an Infiniti. Here is the actual excerpt from the latest
Autoweek article:
----------------------------------------------------
"Word at the track was this GT-R was powered by a 3.5-liter,
twin-turbocharged V6 making 500 hp, sending power to all four wheels
via
a paddle-shifted transmission. Despite Nissan's assertions that the car
will not be Infiniti-badged, an engineer called the car a "2008
Infiniti
Skyline GT-R." No matter what they call it, the production car
premieres
this fall at the Tokyo show, followed by a U.S. introduction in 2008."
-----------------------------------------------------

People are saying that because both Acura(NSX) and
Lexus(LF-A) are developing supercars of their own to match Nissan's
GT-R, Nissan might be reconsidering naming it an Infiniti.

I know there are certain secrets you're not allowed to let us consumers
in on until the proper time. But is this just rumor??????

Would be anxious to hear your thoughts on this 'rumor'!

Sincerely,

David---Driver, Infiniti M45

Dear David,

I saw this article as well. Let me assure that this car will be a
Nissan
- as we announced last year.

It will be a car that everyone who supports Nissan and Infiniti can be
very proud.

Best regards

Simon Sproule
