Undercoating was extra so the buyer skipped due to the added cost.

If you can afford 1.7Mil....why would you skip such a miniscule cost? Plus, for that price, that car should come with everything included. The underbody could be completely platinum coated for this price.

SSP350, you hear that? That's the sound of a joke doing mach 4 over your head. He's kidding, chill out.

Actually it appears to be tarnish from the heat. Look at most any exhaust and you see similar.

That sure looks like rust to me...esp as it is only in the corners where water would drip/pool. I don't think that tube is for exhaust tubing either; if it is the exhaust, that's probably part of the problem...

Heat from the exhaust is probably heating up the surrounding metal causing it to expand (and then contract when it cools). Once that happens enough, the protective coating flakes off, leaving bare metal -which is prone to rust.

Perhaps this could also be a water drainage problem with the nifty retractable spoiler?

I guess when an automaker sells a few cars, like Bugatti, they don't have the funds to properly test them. The DeLorean suffered from similar teething problems 25 yrs ago.

I would have to agree, I find it extremely hard to believe that they would miss a such a small detail like rust proofing on a car like this(ESPECIALLY this car). That just does not exist in this day and age, at least not after only a year of usage.

No - he should have ordered a Bentley Booklands which is much more practical, also a work of art, and a quarter of the price.

Nice try. Almost all of the body panels on the Veyron are made of aluminium. It CANNOT rust.

Oh I'd be pissed.

You know, saying that because x car is expensive it will have no problems is not really valid. Anyone remember the CLK-GTR fiasco? At the time The CLK-GTR was the most expensive production car made- $1.7 Million. Only one was to be sold in the United States- brand new. They could not get the car to drive 10 blocks. The transmission failed, the hydraulic system failed, the windows became unglued, and the big one- it suffered from "oil pressure related engine failure".

Daimler Chrysler completely refused to fix it- that is why they are being sued over it (still I would imagine)

I guess I never thought about it but I never realized the Veyron was made of steel. Aluminium does not rust. I would imagine that if they made it of aluminium, though that the car may have weighed too little and would have had difficulties at speed independent of its aerodynamics.

Ignore that latter part- it is just plain wrong.

I've heard conflicting stories about that fiasco. One of which was that the guy was refusing to let H.W.A. take the car to fix it, insisting that it was a lemon and wanting his money back instead.

I have found information which states the Veryron has a hybrid carbon/stainless steel rear subframe. Stainless will rust, but as easily as normal steel.

Just for good measure the rest body itself is composed of aluminum panels over carbon fibre monocoque w/aluminum front subframe. None of that should rust.

Does the owner not have a garage? Clearly the owner of a 1.7 Million dollar car has a garage to protect it from the elements.

What a shame, and this is one of the hand made car. I don't care how long I drive it, under what weather conditions, a brand new car would NOT rust in couple of years, well unless left outside under heavy snow and salt and water, but it sure doesn't seems like too. This only shows bad job performed on it.

So good for the hand built cars.

This is very bad, I just lost some respect for the Veyron Bugatti because of this rust. Come on...it just came out recently and cost cost to $2 million dollars. And it is suppose to be a marvel of engineering in the automotive world?

That is why I love Japanese cars, especially Lexus, just look at the detail in Lexus. Than you know what I'm talking about.

Maybe the car's metal is stressed from the heat of re-entry?

Aluminum does not rust; however, if there are any steel parts on that car, they should have been stainless steel in that price range.
