SOUND OFF: Just How Much A Month Are You Spending To Fill Up?

To no one’s surprise, gasoline prices are still rising.  Red hot overseas demand, a weak dollar, and an already strained infrastructure keep the prices climbing, with many analysts expecting $5 a gallon early next year.

Over last few years on AutoSpies I have, read what many of you drive, and where many of you reside, so I have and idea of just how bad it can be for a lot of you. By the looks of it, we have a large representation of hybrids and few diesels and of course quite a few SUV’s in the mix as well. Since gas prices are a sensitive issue for a lot of us, it is not uncommon to read many of you commenting just how much the pump is costing you.

So why not see just how much were all are spending out there? Obviously gas prices in New York City are higher than in Oklahoma City, so let us know how much a gallon you are paying, and how much your monthly expenditure is for fuel.

If you have any tips you have come across to save gas, why not let us know just how well that is working for you too.

I'll start out:

The Pilot is once a week to fill up @ $3.45 a gallon and a tank a bit over $60 a week.

The Audi is once every two weeks @ $3.75 a gallon and it runs about $55.

So our outlay is about $350 a month, just to fill up.

Gas is running between $3.45 - $3.65 depending on grade.

The M3 is running about $50.00 about every 5 days sucking down the premium at $3.65 a gallon. I will confess to having put the cheap stuff in it on my last trip to Atlanta late last month as I was running straight freeway driving at constant speeds. The 15 MPG the car has been getting isn't helping matters either.

The A6 is running about $60.00 every 8-9 days, thankfully my wife doesn't drive as much as I do. It gets around 19 MPG, and I only put the cheap stuff in that car.

I paid C$1.324 per litre for premium to fill my leased Audi A6 Quattro yesterday in Edmonton, Alberta. My lease expires in 10 days so it may be my last fill-up for that car.

We follow the U.S. presidential primaries closely in Canada and I cannot understand why some candidates are making a summer gas tax holiday an issue when they can't take formally take office until next January. Are they saying that the economy will continue to sputter through the summer of 2009 when they might be in a position to do something about the gas tax?

I have to side with Obama on this one as it is vital to keep up employment in highway and bridge rehabilitation. I'd rather pay more for gas than risk driving over a bridge that collapses under me.

I'm very pissed off about this crap. For the first time ever I payed just over $70 to fill up my Maxima and that's how it's going to be at least once a week. That puts me at about $280 a month, it's insane. There must be something we can do, but what?

rsands1, when is a civic fast and fun to drive? I owned one and I dont remember anything fast or fun about it. Additionally I dont feel that a maxima gobbles gas. When I had it, it was fairly fuel efficient, although my accord did get slightly better MPG.

Car pool or mass transit is risky as too many sick people cough all sorts of diseases into the closed atmosphere there. Security in cities like New York is also an issue.

'05 Acura TL @ $4.07- $55 every week and a half (I drive significantly less now, take train to work)

'95 Honda Civic @ $3.79- $32 every week

About to get a motorcyle hoping for 55+ MPG for commute.

So I guess you can say ~ $300 a month.

+2 BoostDrop the Boost Up the Boost
Most of it's tax, which I wouldn't mind if I saw it going back to the motorist or even public transport. With the amount of road tax, tax on fuel, congestion charging and tax on new cars that we pay, not to mention the speed camera 'stealth' tax, you'd have thought we'd have a kick ass road network, and/or reliable extensive public transport. But both are pretty poor (To be fair the public transport system in London is pretty extensive - if it were as good outside of London, I wouldn't NEED a car).

Hydrogen cars and bicycles with KERS, that's the future.

G35 @ $3.79/gallon (17 gallons) every 4 days (I drive a lot) = $64.43 * 7 times/month = $483.22

Ninja ZX-14 @ 38 MPG - about $13.50 to fill up every other time I ride = $54/ month

I have 2001 Rav 4 and a 2006 Mini Cooper S. The Rav4 costs about $39 every other week and the Mini is $48 every other week(premium). So $174 per month. I have a friend who owns a GMC Duramax Diesel. It costs him $110 every other week to fill that sucker up. He also owns an 07 Honda CRV. I'm guessing it's similar in cost to my Rav 4.So figure about $300 a month for gas for him.

For tax purposes, I cut it off at 50.00 a week, so its easier to tabulate at the end of the year. There are also some weeks in the summer where I will have to do a double fill up.

My grand total for gas in 2007, was 2800, I guestimate a 20% increase in gas for 08, so this year should be about $3360. If I drive the same amount.

I start my job on Wall Street which is easily accesible by Train/subway, so there is no need for a car.

Im honesly getting sick of paying these prices though, its BS. Its not the American way, we buy enough oil and energy to get a better deal.

I don't know exactly. I stopped looking at the pump meter once it hit $3.00 / gallon.

Just don't want to get upset about high gas prices, because the situation will not become better if I get upset.

Do I like high gas prices? NO.
Will I drive less because of gas prices are going up? NO.
Will I change my car to something consuming less gas? NO.

You see my point? Why should I think about gas prices, if there is not much I can do about it to change it?

SIMPLE, WRITE YOUR POLITICAL REPRESENTATIVE AND TELL THEM THAT A EUROPEAN DIESEL GETTING 50 MPG IS FAR BETTER FOR THE ENVIRONMENT THAN SOME APPROVED SUV GETTING 18.

Ford needs to extend its New 4.4L Diesel beyond just their new small truck lineup.

This engine also needs to become the standard engine on the new Lincoln crossovers that are coming, like the new MKt.

This will provide, power, acceleration, towing power all at 50 Miles per gallon. What could be better?

I was really interested in the VW Tiguan Diesel, but after looking at it, I found that there is insufficient room for a full sized spare.

Driving hundreds of miles per day for sales, a full-size spare is a must.

One thing interesting (and scary) to note though is that, since I only fill up once every month, everytime I fill up the price per gallon is significantly higher than the time before. I last filled up at $3.98. A month ago it was $3.72. A month before that, it was $3.44.

Well, the V8 Explorer has a great engine. The 4.6L is perfect for quietness, power and acceleration. It is the 4 wheel drive that kills the Mileage since it is geared too low for highway driving. The Explorer was designed for trailer towing.
Unfortunately the V6 engines are just simply underpowered and very noisy, because you have to floor the gas pedal to get them to accelerate on a highway, which is tough abuse on the engine.
Ford's 3.8L V6 (Their biggest) isn’t bad, but the 4.6L V8 is still more refined.

I see all the car companies keep making their V6 bigger and bigger to squeeze out more horsepower, but the 4.6L V8 is just the perfect size.

Now is the time to go Diesel, that is a more efficient, more refined idea than the V6 gasoline idea.

When the domestics put a V8 logo on the fender, it causes road rage.

Is horsepower now only reserved the rich and famous?

Soon the price of gas will be higher than leasing an electric car.

I'm all for it. The benefit of higher gas prices are faster commutes, more usage of public transportation, and lower prices on work vehicles like trucks and SUVs.

The only downside is inflation. Higher gas prices = higher cost for everything else like food.

"Soon the price of gas will be higher than leasing an electric car."

I meant to say, soon the monthly expense for gas for many people will justify the cost of leasing an electric car.

The way to stop your endless gasoline price increases is to hedge the price of oil. A simple way to do it is to buy a oil service mutual fund or ETF. I've been holding one for years, and the higher the price of oil goes, the more valuable my investment becomes.
Of course, if oil prices start falling you'll begin to lose money.
If you want to try it, wait until the fund drops 5 to 10% then dive in. Good luck!

~ $100 a month in the 335i. My wife and I both live within 1.5 miles from our jobs. Commuters are suckas!

But I welcome high fuel prices. It will keep a lot of idiots off the road. $20 a gallon, bring it on! The state of CA will be my own personal racetrack.

27.8 MPG on a '00 e46 with the 2.5 in Vancouver = around $60 every 10 days = $180/month, give or take.
If I fill-up in the U.S (Point Roberts, WA), around $150-160/month, give or take.

I am lucky enough to not really have to use my car as much now a days. When I am at the pump I easily pump in a good $47 a tank in a 2004 Ford Mustang. Gas is $4+/-

I am just hoping that the transition to alternative fuel will be a seamless transition that will be cheap and easily accessible.

I own a 2006 Honda Accord, 4 cylinder

i fill it up twice a week by 6,4 $ each
so, a total of 12 $ weekly,,,48 $ monthly

it's the cheapest fuel you could ever use.. it's Saudi Arabia where the fuel is much chepaer than fresh water.

Best Regards
