Years ago, BMW Group's MINI brand had a problem. Its teeny weeny Cooper had drawn tremendous interest from buyers all over the globe; however, the company's sales figures were not sustainable as the manufacturer of small vehicles didn't have an expanded product portfolio.

So, what did it do next? That's where the Countryman came into play.

While other cars like the Coupe and Roadster were total bombs, the Countryman sold in solid numbers. But now it's time to roll out the follow up — competition is fiercer than ever with cars like the Audi Q3, Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class and Land Rover Discovery Sport coming to market.

What we've got for your viewing pleasure are images of the test car undergoing development. Clearly it's wrapped quite extensively. While we don't expect a significant design departure from the current Countryman, we do think it will increase in size as the Cooper has grown up quite a bit from its early 2000s introduction. It only makes sense that the Countryman would increase its footprint.

We'll be keeping an eye on the all-new Countryman as more pictures surface.
