One of the more popular sport-utility vehicles on the scene is the Porsche Cayenne. Jeez, I remember when the first-gen Cayenne came out. It was like everyone had to have one in their driveway.

Although it seems that the fire that was lit under buyers' respective asses has cooled a bit — the Macan is the must-have item as of late — that doesn't mean that Porsche is not going to continue making progress with its big daddy SUV.

Now that the second-gen Cayenne has essentially run its course, it's time to give this P car a proper upgrade. Rumored to be based on the all-new Audi Q7, the next-gen Cayenne is going to get lighter — thank goodness.

If you ask me, the biggest downfall of the current-gen Cayenne is the fact it weighs too much. According to the rumormill, upwards of 400 pounds is to be removed.

As of now the spy images we have seem to depict an early stage mule undergoing testing. I can't tell any differences over the current body though I will note the fenders look a bit peculiar. Perhaps there's been some modifications there to fit the chassis?
