One of the most hotly anticipated vehicles for the new year is the all-new "baby CLS," dubbed the Mercedes-Benz CLA.

This must be what has BMW gearing up its 4-Series Gran Coupe for.

This is what we do know. It will likely be powered by the A-Class' powertrain options. But where things get exciting is with its AMG variant, which will likely have upwards of 350 horsepower -- some rumors are speculating more like 370.

The latest news from Germany is that Mercedes has officially confirmed that its CLA will be offered as a Shooting Brake model.

Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that its forthcoming 'baby CLS' will spawn an estate version to be called the CLA Shooting Brake.

The CLA is tipped to appear for the first time in full production guise at the Detroit motor show in January, before going into production in June 2013 for sale in the UK a few months later.

Inspired by the F800 Style concept of 2010, and previewed by the Concept Style Coupé at this year's Auto China show in Beijing, the Mercedes CLA is based on the front-wheel drive platform of the latest A-class.
