When I was driving the all-new, B9 Audi A4 one thought kept reentering my head. While I was very impressed with the A4's new driving dynamics, I couldn't help but wonder: "How much better will the all-new Audi S4 be?"

I've driven the S4 extensively and adored the B8 when it first came out. It is no wonder that I named it my favorite car under $50,000 and added one to the fleet. It was a great product.

But as it's aged it's clear that it is long in the tooth when compared with the latest and greatest work the four rings' competitors are doing. Hell, the B8 even feels ridiculously old when compared to the standard B9 A4 equipped with a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine.

In addition to the S4 though there will be the coupe variant, the S5. Offered last go around in coupe and convertible form factors, the latest word we're hearing is that Audi is considering the U.S. market for the sportback we didn't receive with the last-gen car.

The latest spy shots show the S5 getting a work out around the Nürburgring as well as the three variants — coupe, convertible, sportback. Though their covered head-to-toe in camouflage, we are pretty sure that the B9 A4/S4 should give us a damn good idea of what it will look like.

In other words, don't expect a revolution but a slight evolution with a sharper and more sophisticated take. The interior will feature the updated digital instrument panel, a large infotainment screen atop the center stack and the HVAC venting will run across the dash.
