Originally introduced at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show, the MINI Paceman almost slipped away from my memory.

To be quite honest, I did! I forgot all about the spunky, seemingly two-door Countryman until a MINI public relations professional reminded me of its existence at the 2012 New York Auto Show.

But now we're seeing it going through its development cycle for the first time and we're getting a look at what will likely be its production threads for the FIRST time.

It's interesting how this two-door sport-utility vehicle's roofline bears a distant resemblance to the Range Rover Evoque. Note the sloping quality?

Given that its base model will likely be priced aggressively -- let's say the $22,000 mark -- we expect the spicier models like the S and JCW to reach as high as the low $30,000s. That would be a significant pricing difference when compared to the Evoque.

That said, does the Range Rover Evoque have anything to worry about OR will its status symbol quality keep it ahead of the pack?

What say you, Spies?
