OK, so, let me come clean. The other day I made a mistake when I posted the first spy shots of the next-gen Audi RS4. I had read my German incorrectly and I believed it was going to be equipped with the classic 4.2-liter V8 motor.

Turns out I was mistaken.

That's because the upcoming RS4 will feature a bi-turbo six-cylinder. You know, the engine that's been rumored to find a home in the second-gen R8 sports car.

Considering the relationship between the previous-gen RS4 sharing an engine with the first-gen R8, this doesn't seem out of the realm of possibility. That said, we have yet to hear this thing getting stretched out.

Well, given the timing of the year, we're getting a first listen to the all-new RS4's six-cylinder soundtrack. Ah, I love the smell of the racetrack in the morning. Rubber, brakes and in some unfortunate circumstances, clutch.

According to the latest reports, we're expecting the six-cylinder R8 to produce somewhere in the region of 450 horsepower, but this news clashes with other sources claiming that the RS4 may produce upwards of 500 ponies. We'll have to wait and see but either way you slice it 450-500 horsepower will do either vehicle some good. And, given the all-new driving dynamics of the B9, we think this will be a much more competitive sedan to rival the BMW M3/M4 and Mercedes-AMG C63.
