Recently some all-new spy shots of a hardcore, roll cage-equipped Volkswagen Golf have surfaced on the 'net. There's just a couple things wrong with that sentence.

Roll-cage-equipped Golf?

Coming from the owner of a modified Golf, I have to ask: How much more power could a front-wheel drive auto possess? When you actually give it thought, if VW is planning on building a track ready Golf, there's no way it will be FWD, right? It would almost have to be an all-wheel drive Golf a la the Golf R.

What we do know after this clip is that it appears whatever VW is working on it will be aggressive. Check out the large diameter wheels, lowered stance and larger rear spoiler.

It will be pretty interesting to see how the people's automaker prices this car. I mean, if it costs upwards of $50,000 USD, why wouldn't you just go get a real track-focused machine on the used market? Porsche Cayman S or R, anyone? Strip it out yourself and you'll have better stories to tell.

Anyhow, to the clip!

Volkswagen is testing a mysterious hardcore Golf on the Nürburgring Nordschleife. It could be a Golf GTI 'Club Sport' or Golf R EVO. Either way, it looks like Volkswagen is planning on introducing an even sportier version of the Golf. Expectations are that it will be introduced during the Wörthersee Tuning festival in May. This footage was shot by Touriclips on Thursday the 27th of March 2014.
