In recent months we've been closely following the all-new Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe undergoing developmental testing. While it's been covered up for the most part, we did get a break when a great spy photographer captured it uncovered at the port.

Now though we're seeing something a bit...peculiar.

That would be a fully camouflaged C-Class Coupe roaming around Stuttgart. That in of itself is not weird, but the fact this particular C-Class is equipped with a roof box is.

The only other times we've seen any automaker do something like that is when they're developing an all-new sport-utility vehicle. The roof boxes serve as a method to simulate a higher center of gravity. Obviously an SUV sits higher off the ground rather than your run-of-the-mill sedan.

That said, care to take a guess as to what the three-pointed star is up to here? Could it be working on some other SUV concept? Is it merely durability testing?

What say you, Spies?
