I think a "strong challenge" is an understatement. The new RS6 will blow the M5 and E63 out of the water...but I have heard pricing estimates putting the new RS6 at around $100K, making it priced at a 17.5% premium over the E63 and about a 23.5% premium over the M5...is there any validity to this pricing rumor?

It would make sense considering that the RS4 is priced at about 39% over the S4 and 39% over the $72,000 sticker on the S6 would put the RS6 at a shy over $100,000.

Yes, YES, YES!!

Test drove the new S6 over the weekend and was impressed with the performance. Unfortunately, felt the exterior styling was a too sedate to set it apart from the A6 w/ S-line package. Was going to bite the bullet and just do an after market body kit 'till I saw this post. Needless to say, I'm giddy with aniticpation

Now all I need are pics of the Sedan to seal the deal.

Chewy once again u r overestimating a new Audi,same like what u did with the R8 before it's debut.

So for now don't say words like Super Car,this or that.
I had a 2004 Audi RS6 ABT Sportsline with 505BHP which i sold when i got my new M5.

And i can say, that BMW M5 is better in every aspect/area than it was.

So i suspect the new RS6 to be in the terreritry and reach of M5 and not far away as what u r claiming.

Expect it to have:
1)520BHP from a 5.2l Lambo derived engine.

2)Therfore BHP/litre ratio will be improved to 100hp per litre.

3)BHP/tonne ratio of S6 is only 217 comapre to M5's 273.Expect the RS6 to address this.

4)The S6 is 80 kg heavier than the M5.Expect the RS6 to shed that weight.

All in all the Mega M5 is still a car to beat.

Jugnu, once AGAIN, Chewy and I are not overestimating times. We are making precise calculations based on relevant factors such as weight, displacement, horsepower, engine layout etc...

The R8 will DEFINITELY go faster than 0-60 in 4.6 seconds. It is a known fact.

The car has the same exact engine as the RS4, it weighs 600 lbs. less, has two fewer doors thus making it more aerodynamic and only seats 2 versus 4 or 5.

The R8 is targeting a Nurburgring time of 7:50. That places it on par with the M3 CSL and it could quite easily be faster.

Yes, I agree the M5 is the car to beat in the segment of RS6, E63 AMG and M5.

Audi will definitely win in the acceleration sweepstakes. Why? you may ask.

AGAIN, this is not an OVER-ESTIMATION. If the previous RS6 could get 0-60 in 4.4 consistently which is already within a tenth of a second of most M5 times, and if you factor in the fact that the new RS6 will have twin-turbos with 520 horsepower, at least 40 more than the previous version, better hp/litre ratio and less weight than the current Audi S6 which is already good for a 0-60 time of 5 seconds flat....you are looking at an M5 straight-line eating car.

Trust me....that is a FACT and NOT an overestimated hype due to the simple fact that all RS-cars are faster than their BMW M counterparts in a straight-line.

Take for example, the RS4 vs. M3. The previous RS6 versus M5.

It is only fitting and probably a high possibility that Audi would make their newer RS6 faster yet again. Trust me, Audi is not waiting around for 3 years after the M5 introduction and going to release a SLOWER car.

This thing will have torque. Lots of it. If it is turboed V10 (most likely right now) it will have over 500 lb-ft of torque, compared to only 383 for the M5. The last RS6 had a 4.2 liter turbocharged V8 that made 450 hp and first and 480 in RS6+ form. The V10 adds two more cylinders and FSI, I expect power from at least 550 to 600 hp.

Larry why would we compare the RS and M lines from Audi and BMW to the AMG 65 models that can 0-60 in roughly 4 seconds or maybe even below but can track as fast as my grandma can walk the Nurburgring.

Mercedes AMG are the worst impressions of track cars possible. Yes, they may have huge horsepower figures and engine. They can't track for shit though.

well, i am personally very pleased with my S6 and have no doubt that a RS6 model is going to be quite fast..i hope DSG is available by then, though i have no complaints with the paddle shifters on the S6..i would expect the cost to be above the last RS6 price..my S6 topped out at 80,400..so i would guess around 90,000 base, 98,000 with all options..will definately do european delivery...

I hope the rumors about the RS6 being twin-turbo are true. Enough of this N/A nonsense. Audi proved their N/A engineering skills with the RS4, R8, S6 & S8. Now it's time to play with the TT V10!

Approx. 530 hp & 500 tq. Then chip it to around 610 hp & 570 tq. I guess at this point the numbers start to get ridiculous..

Why don't I just throw something out there for you to ponder. You may not have thought of it before:

Extensive car development at the Nurburgring ruins cars. Narrow-mindedly focusing on a fast lap time can result in the production car being too stiff and uncomfortable on the road, while other engineering aspects such as steering feel and the suspensions ability to handle poorly-sealed roads are neglected.

Often cars developed at the 'Ring are over-damped to cope with the tracks savage compressions, but on the road become unruly and uncomfortable.

Also note that the lap times stated by manufacturers at the 'Ring are often done on a set of racing tyres and with adjustments made to the car's chassis.

However, manufacturers like Jaguar developed the new XKR extensively on the Nurburgring, because they discovered the unpredictable and often violent crests, dips and corners of the track cover every eventuality in real life. It's like an ultra-fast testing course, if you will.

The XKR is a sensation to drive on the road because Jaguar's engineers did most of the chassis and suspension tuning/design on ACTUAL roads. The Nurburgring is simply their test bed, giving the car's various components the work-out of a life-time and making sure nothing broke. They succeeded.

Let's hope Audi did the same thing with the RS6. It would be a shame if they didn't.

So remember, a great Nurburgring car does not necessarily mean a great road car.

im pretty sure the old m5 beats anything in its class. the current m5 is still the one to beat and it compares with the s line. for the rs, the mf csl will be launched with 550+hp. better handling and lower weight. It is still the car to beat. That, mr. Nut.. "is a known fact". Dont get me wring I like the rs line.. its just he m series cars are so much cooler and more prestigious as well as more balanced, sporty and less weight ridden.. All good things in my book, dont you agree?

more prestigious??? certainly not when everyone has them. An RS car is a rarer sight by a mile when compared to an M3 or M5.

More sporty??? Certainly not on the Nurburgring for the RS4 vs. M3 or in a straightline.

With the RS6 the same can be said for it against the M5, where it will eat the M5 for dinner on the Ring and on the track.

Audi develops ALL RS-cars on the Ring. How do you think the RS4 managed to clear the 8 minute mark Matthew?

Why do you think the last RS6 was a straight-line monster and the R8 will ossibly clear 7:50 on the Ring?

Perhaps because Audi develops all RS cars and the R8 on the Ring and manages to whip up some INCREDIBLE times because of it.

rs compares with m.
rs is not a srtipped out racer, like the csl, which has no air conditioning and little sound deadening.
s compares with the bigger engined bimmers, and sometimes slots above say the 550 but below the m5.

If they M5 were such a great car... the market on the car would be considerably better than it is right now. The old M5's were tough to get a hold of until the very end. The new M5's are dropping like flies at dealerships. The styling sucks, the transmission sucks, and the car sounds like a mazda 4 cylinder. Nice try BMW.

AmazingBimmer, what I posted on this thread was 100% true. Audi develops all RS car and also the R8 on the Ring.

Audi also manages to get better times on the Ring when compared to BMW with the RS4 versus M5 and R8 will take down anything in the BMW line on the Ring.

You can say what you want AmazingBimmer, the fact is there are FAR FAR fewer RS-cars made and sold when compared to BMW M cars.

The odds of seeing an Audi RS car are MUCH lower than the odds of seeing a BMW M car.

I am begining to dislike the fat Audi snout. I hope they would refine it and make it, well, more proportioned to the face and the rest of the car. Frankly, it is the ugliest part of the Audi design which is otherwise clean and crisp.

the audi RS6 not a great car, in fact the old AMG 55 with its 469 hp, and 516 pound- feet of touque was much faster than the RS6 and the old M5. I don't understand this website Mercedes invented the term premium luxury car, Audi is still seen by many as a 2nd tier premium car, not even in the same league of Mercedes, yet so much hype for a expensive passat

I really love this car to be honest, it really impressed me when i went for a ride in it, I prefered the normal one over the plus and i didnt feel much power difference. However i really think its quite expensive compared to the M5 even though i'd take it over the M5 and the E63 any day. This is one german car that i love, even though it might cause problems and be unreliable just like it's other brothers and sisters. I always prefered the RS6 over the M5 and E55 ever since they came out.

Larry, these expensive Volkswagens if you would like to call them that, have provided unsurpassable amounts of luxury of the highest level in the A8. Even better, they can smash the E39 M5 in a straight-line with the previous RS6, can out-drag the current M3 with the RS4 and even chase down the M5 on the Nurburgring with the RS4 and will soon out-drag the E60 M5 with the current M5.

The R8 will outdrag anything BMW has ever produced and in V10 and possibly even V8 form the Audi R8 will lap the Ring faster than any BMW ever has.

The prices don't come cheap either. So the whole poor man's arguement is thrown out the window. The A8L 6.0 W12 is priced higher both in base price and fully-loaded form when compared to the BMW 760Li. The RS4 is 11K more than an M3 and the new RS6 will easily clear the price of the E60 M5.

Those, Larry are deserving accomplishments and Audi is rightfully regarded as being on par with BMW.

And actually, I don't think the R8 V8 will out-drag any BMW- but it will certainy have a better driving experience than any of them. But the M6 may be quicker.

Of course, the R8 V10 will demolish them all.

Bottom line the reason that audi has created a S4, or RS6 is to be like BMW. BMW M535i 1979, back when Audi was making cars like the crappy Audi Fox, BMW is the car Audi wishes it could be, after all VW CEO is from BMW. Before you post audi lies, audi S cars started in 1992. I am so happy audi is not as great you make them out be, they are 2nd tier wanna be BMWs.

Exactly my point. Even if the R8 V8 didn't quite get the straight-line task done the R8 in V10 form will eat alive even the BMW M6 CSL in both the straights and on the Ring.

The R8 V10 is likely to hit Corvette Z06 territory on the Ring. That would mean a time between 7:42-7:45.

What i said in my first comment is more sensible and likely to happen.First Audi have to work on the issues of S6(i mentioned in my first post) and then they will boost some more power.

Take the Example of S600 (or even S65 AMG if u want).

S600 is a 6.0L V12 Biturbo,producing 517BHP.

S65 AMG produces 610BHP with a mega dispalcement of 6.5l together with two turbos.

It shows that u r claiming a Performance figure matching that of AMG 65 SERIES.That's pretty Stupid.

Audi RS6 is going to be 5.2-5.5 the max,that's a full 1 litre less than the 65 AMG series.It's going to be a V10 that is again two cylinders less.

Ok i try to be clear now,by making a comparison for u.

MB 65 Series:
6.5 Litre Engine
+
V12
+
2 Turbos
=
610BHP


Audi RS6:
5.2-5.5 Litre Engine
+
V10

2 Turbos
=
520BHP.<-------What do u SAY about this???????

The difference should be of 100BHP but i am giving Audi 10BHP more.
Therefore the difference is 90BHP that's because of RS6's less 2 cylinders and a full litre less.


RESULT:THE RS6 IS MOST PROBABLY GOING TO BE 520BHP,THAT'S 13BHP MORE THAN M5 AND SAME AS OF E 63 AMG.

HENCE PROVED,THAT THE NEW RS6 OR THE UPCOMING R8 V10 IS NOT GOING TO BE OUT OF THE WORLD OR UNCOMPETABLE(AS BY THE AUDI FANS)
BUT SURE THEY WILL BE GREAT AND WILL GIVE THE COMPETITORS A TOUGH TIME.

Yeah but the 520 horsepower is a lot for the R8. Remember the R8 only weighs 3200 pounds.

The R8 V10 will be around 7:45 on the Ring guaranteed.

The RS6 will easily go 0-60 in under 4 seconds.

520 horsepower from a 5.2 litler Twin-Turbo V10 and reduced weight from the S6.

Jugnu simply face it, Audi is going to produce straight-line and track eating monsters with the RS6 and R8 which will leave BMW in the dust.

JUGNU look at audi's current rs4 and it's hp per liter output.

The current rs4 using FSI makes 420hp with a 4.2L without a turbo.

A 5.2-5.5L Twin Turbo will make more than 520hp, especially with FSI technology.

Don’t discredit VW technology. besides they built the 8.0L 1001hp veyron engine.
