Well, let me tell you about the big joke in our family. I like station wagons and my wife hates them. She wants a small SUV. She thinks the new slightly larger 2009 Subaru Forester is an SUV and I see that vehicle as a tall station wagon so the Forester makes it to my shopping list.

The upcoming A4 Avant looks better than this C-Class wagon.

Yes, it looks droopy -- it adheres almost bizarrely to the current C-class design code, yet that design obviously appears not to work when it's extended towards the rear of the auto.

"But hun, you drive a Lexus"

"ya I know, but there's no point in me going round bashing Lexus, because that would make me a hypocrite, now wouldn't it?"

"But you are a hypocrite"

"Aren't you meant to be supporting me as my wife?"

"No, I want a C-Class".

Homer, glad to see your well on your way to getting kicked off again.

Is intelligent conversation too much for you? We're all waiting for that brain of yours to engage.

Looks like a squashed R-class, not a good thing ;-)

Wagons make more sense than an SUV. Who needs All Wheel Drive when a simple 2 wheel, Rear wheel drive gives the car better range for long interstate drives?
The only problem is, most people in business will get laughed at when driving a wagon but get the thumbs up when driving an SUV. Especially when picking your colleges and their luggage up at the airport.
They just need to take the “Soccer Mom” look out of the Wagon, and then they might have a hit.
As for this Estate Wagon, I will instead wait to see the production version of the Lincoln MKt.

I really liked the old Mercedes Full-Size Wagon. The one from 6 or 7 years ago. It was more squared off.

Its already been released in Germany, so I don't think its being tested. Its probably just some Mercedes-Benz USA executive who gets to drive the yet to be released vehicles specially.

They don't need to test it more.

This is interesting after MB killed the last gen C class wagon in 2005. That was a sharp wagon. Curious to see if they bring this one over.

I love wagons here personally; drive a Saab wagon. They're so much more useful than an SUV, and when they are a bit sporty, you forget about all that space behind you while driving!

Well, one advantage of wagons in the long wheelbase, which seems to give vehicles more stability and better handling. This is why I like Town Car L (stretch) model, which is 6” longer than the regular model.

In Europe, wagons are the sporty cars, sedans are the boring cars.
And most modern wagons don't have a longer wheelbase.
In fact, Euro wagons, like my wife's A6 aren't any longer in the body than the sedan either.
They're just better balanced, and a lot more practical.

If MB had any brains, they'd be selling the e-Class wagon with a diesel.
Do they ever wonder why 20 year-old e-class diesel wagons sell for 4x or 5x what the same gas wagons sell for?
People who want practical but sporty vehicles want a diesel wagon.
SUV is a contradition in terms ... there's mothing "sporty" about those terrible handling pigs!
