Nice to see Toyota taking the appropriate action. Must be an isolated incident though, surely if it was a problem that was going to affect all models produced it would be discovered during testing?

One might think that, but you never know.

Toyota just recently figured out my '07 camry v6 engine problem. It was a manufacturing defect with one of the valve lifters; caused misfiring constantly. Warranty repair cost - $1,402...and not a single f'ing consulation prize for owning the first '07 Camry V6, in the U.S., that had this problem.

Maybe they used one of those brittle silicon-impregnated engine blocks (a la BMW V-8) without iron liners to save a few pennies. This should not have happened but it's good that Toyota has taken appropriate steps. The only outstanding item now is full disclosure by Toyota as to what the design flaw was and what exactly did happen.

MidEngine, there is totally insufficient information in the article so your accusation against opfreak is unjustified.

it's Australian, but pretty much the same as the U.S. Camry V6, only it has a Supercharger.

It might look a little "ricey" but its a dam sight better looking than the US Camry.

Toyota reps claim a "one-off" event that "shouldn't" affect other cars.

So why stop the production line Toyoman? is the problem more serious than we're led to believe?

That does seem suspect.

More evidence of toyota's production and quality problems...

Toyota wants to sell lots of cars but can they a lot of quality cars to sell.

I think the quality of most GM cars is equivalent or better than anything from toyota.

Given the engine sludge problems that Toyota had a few years ago, I am more suspicious than all the other suspicious comments here. Why is there no full disclosure re the problem?

Since Toyota isn't in any kind of financial crisis like the U.S. big three, I don't see why they can't do a limited production run of these here in the U.S.
