Sarah Palin Opens A Can Of Alaskan Whoop-Ass On Obama And Democrats-But What Does She Drive?
You'd have be deaf or dead to have not heard the shots fired last night by Vice-Presidential candidate and Governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin, during her speech at the Republican National Convention.

No matter WHAT your political beliefs are, NOBODY can argue she did an
unbelievable job last night under the kind of pressure, that very few people on this planet will EVER be under.

The Spies say we are proud to be part of a country with tremendously gifted people like Sarah Palin and Barack Obama.

Awesomely proud.

But the question WE want answered is what kind of car or cars does Sarah drive?

Kyle Busch, author of the book "Drive the Best for the Price” and National Automotive Examiner for the San Francisco Examiner online edition told the autochannel that shedrives a Suburban and a VW Jetta Diesel.

One more thing to like about her, she's a diesel girl!

What about her lack of experience? Zero international experience? Her husband being a member of a separatist group (if that were Michelle Obama she would be ostracized)? Her views on abortion (even in rape cases!)?

You think that she is fit to run the country? I don't

And I really do not care what she drives.

what the HELL is wrong with you people??? Does no one else but me & 001 realize that Palin kicked ass with her speech last night? Qualifications smalifcations I say. I'm ashamed to say I participate in this board when all of you are equating things like keeping a child from getting pregnant to the ability (or lack therof) to govern our country. Maybe we need a socialist president and agenda-- is that what you guys want??? As soon as that happens, try having the FREEDOM and ability (let alone the disposable income that will vanish to taxes) to OWN & DRIVE THE CARS WE ALL CARE SO MUCH ABOUT!!!!! Look at Denmark, average trade cycle there for car ownership is almost 8 years, whereas here in the US its still less than 3 years. SOCIALISM = BAD THINGS FOR THE US.

Shame on you ALL if you deboost this- you are truly UN-American in your spirit if you feel we need to move in such a direction.

LexSucks, this election has nothing to do with a teen girl with a normal sex drive -- the only reason she became pregnant is because of silly politicians like her mother who are against sex education in schools and probably against birth control in general. I can't believe that there are so many gullible people who have been brainwashed by the religious right into believing that abstinence is realistic. I guess I should not be too surprised since these dupes also believe that the earth is only 6,000 years old.

LexSucks- I may agree with you about "car" matters, but you're way off base- how can you expect even the best parent to keep their kids from doing something like this & getting pregnant? What would you say to a person who had bad parents turning out "right"? Last time I checked, Sen. Obama was raised by his grandparents because his parents were AWOL/dysfunctional/whatever. Because his parents may have made bad decisions are we supposed to not trust him? It's the same sort of argument you're making in my opinion. And it doesn't hold water. We need to look at these people for their records- that is what shows what they are really about. Candidates can and do say all kinds of things in campains, rarely do the things they promise. I contend to you- what has Sen. Obama promised and delivered on through his career? Likewise what has Sen. McCain promised and delivered on in his career? And Gov. Palin? I look at facts and records- promises from politicians mean less than the paper they are printed on.

Great point, Teknik, as opposed to Obama's vast foreign policy experience. That's right, he did just give a speech over in Europe last month, so I guess that counts. And by the way, he's on the top of the ticket with little to no foreign policy experience whereas Palin is #2.

Nevertheless, I really can't stand either ticket, but I'll be damned if I'm voting to give the Dems complete control over our Federal Gov't with the WH and Congress. Last time that happened we got the "New Deal" and "Great Society" disasters.

Lexsux... Bush has been running (or supposedly running) this country now for 8 years and his daughters were uncontrollable at one point too! You obviously do not have children, they will do what they want when they are teens, I was one once and no power or authority my Air Force father could give me would stop me from doing what I wanted...call that the rise of an American spirit. It is that independent thought that has made this country what it is. I am not all about McCain or Obama, but can either of them run it, why not? Bush was elected twice and I disliked him as governor of Texas, did a lousy job in my opinion (family lives out there and didn't like him either)but our country still moves forward. I think Palin seems alright... she has as much experience as Baby Bush...he had no foreign experience and I am sure he called Daddy constantly for aid and answers to many of his questions....

It is part of growing up, and making mistakes. It is a growing experience that some times is learned the hard way. Some of the wildest kids I knew growing up, came for the most conservative and respected families.

Think of this, average life expectancy of an american male is 73.6 years of age. McCain is 72, in a year and half we could have Palin as president? No thanks, look I love hockey mom's but not running this country, especially not after what bush is leaving us with.

She doesn't seem like a soccer/hockey mom to me. You name me one soccer/hockey mom that has ran any type of government whatsoever. Despite the pressure and critism she has had, she has managed to go through as a VP nominee no problem. Although I was not able to watch the speech last night, I know and we all know that her speech was amazing. She has been a mayor and a governer and that should be enough experience to start as Vice President. You name me one woman or man that is willing to express and admit all of her mistakes. The two people able to run in this election is McCain and Palin because they put Country First. As McCain said, "I would rather lose an election, than see this election lose a war."

Just because I feel like being a bit precise- that is called a fallacy of division. Those are abstractions of the population. Your life-span so long as your death is natural, is correlated more with genetics and telomeres than the population average.

Id rather have an older more experienced man as our president than one who promises "change" with no experience or support to back him up. Ok MBKing, educate us on exactly what Obama is going to do besides raise taxes and bring us even more babysitting from the Federal Gov't? And the last time I checked the Dems have been controlling Congress since 2006. Since then gas prices have gone through the roof and the economy has sputtered. How is that Bush's fault? Heck, I'll even give you that it's not necessarily Congress's/Dems fault either, just an economic cycle, but all this back and forth is ridiculous and you certainly aren't going to fix an economy or the energy problem with higher taxes and more gov't regulation, the exact prescription the Dems have been proposing for every economic downturn for almost the last 75 years.

And I can sure as hell tell you I'm better off than I was 8 years ago, but I am now considered "rich" according to the Dems and they had nothing to do with my going to school, working hard, and making some good choices. In fact, Bush didn't either. I wish people would quit thinking the gov't is their "parent" to whine to at every problem and "hope" they fix it.

You know, people are constantly whining about this, but it needs to be done. If our tremendous and sufficiently terrifying debt continues to increase, we will doubtless be living a very different life in this country by the middle of the century. We may face a crappy immediate future in order to fix it, but IMO that's far better than sitting on it and letting it destroy our country's actual future.

Well, I went to the Senate page and looked up the rules.

"Members, officers and employees of the House and the Senate have since 1995 [S.Res. 158, 104thCong. (July 28, 1995]; H.Res. 250, 104thCong. (November 16, 1995))been under restrictive rules on gifts and travel reimbursements somewhat similar to the current rules put in place in 2007[(H.Res. 9, 106thCong., January 6, 1999, providing for de minimis exception, H.Res. 6, 110thCongress (January 4, 2007), and the Senate gift rules by P.L. 110-81, Title V (Sept. 14, 2007)]. The 2007 changes implemented further restrictions on the interaction of registered lobbyists or their clients with Members and staff of Congress, particularly with reference to de minimis gifts (gifts under $50)."

Your statement about cars at least is inaccurate.

So, I looked up the latter, erm, the sponsor and list of co-sponsors:

Sen Reid, Harry [NV]
Sen Bennett, Robert F. [UT] - 1/4/2007
Sen Brown, Sherrod [OH] - 1/8/2007
Sen Cantwell, Maria [WA] - 1/4/2007
Sen Collins, Susan M. [ME] - 1/4/2007
Sen Durbin, Richard [IL] - 1/4/2007
Sen Feinstein, Dianne [CA] - 1/4/2007
Sen Lautenberg, Frank R. [NJ] - 1/4/2007
Sen Leahy, Patrick J. [VT] - 1/4/2007
Sen Lieberman, Joseph I. [CT] - 1/4/2007
Sen Lott, Trent [MS] - 1/4/2007
Sen McConnell, Mitch [KY] - 1/4/2007
Sen Menendez, Robert [NJ] - 1/4/2007
Sen Mikulski, Barbara A. [MD] - 1/4/2007
Sen Salazar, Ken [CO] - 1/9/2007
Sen Schumer, Charles E. [NY] - 1/4/2007
Sen Stabenow, Debbie [MI] - 1/4/2007
Sen Webb, Jim [VA] - 1/4/2007

Library of Congress identified two similar bills, S.192, and S.230. Co-sponsor of the latter: Sen Obama, Barack [IL] - 1/9/2007. But this is what is said for its status: Referred to Senate committee. Status: Read twice and referred to the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs.

As an interesting note, S.192's major sponsor: Sen McCain, John [AZ] (introduced 1/4/2007)

Is S.230 the one you are talking about?

Yank John McCain out and replace him with Cindy. The complete MILF ticket.

Definitely the wrong site for political commentary. But since you entioned Palins speech I must comment. I think she did a very good job of delivering a speech writers very well written speech that didn't really say anything. Her speech said nothing about why she'd be a good vice president. It was full of punch lines that go against what the party said they would do. For McCain to be running for the country and to be such a cross aisle co-operator her speech was quite dirty. None of the real campaign issues were touched. She will prove to have more skeletons in her closet and in the end will end up costing McCain the election.
All that being said, I dont want another hillbilly republican in office to ruin the economy for 4-8 more years.

All of the above comments are purely academic as far as I am concerned. I am convinced that Obama will win anyway because of his natural charismatic leadership skills and because Americans see him as the only candidate who can restore America's moral leadership around the world. Obama will not only unite Americans but will eventually unite the world.

The U.S. is already number one militarily but the current administration has squandered America's moral currency through bad strategies and questionable diplomacy.

You don't know really know politics if you are looking for policy direction VP or VP candidates; that's for the presidents/presidential candidates debate. VPs are always responsible for dishing out the dirty and calling the other party out. Punclines and one-liners are what being a VP candidate are all about!! Biden is no different. They sling the mud so the ticket leads can claim clean hands. Always has been; always will be. Give Palin props -- she can dish it as well as she takes it. She didn't buckle, sweat, wince, or whine last night. And that was a huge, national stage. That girl rocks. She is the future of the GOP. Even if McCain doesn't win, she's a part of the American conscious now. Just like Obama's 2004 speech. Face it, she is here to stay. She will go back to Alaska, clean it up some more, and be half way through the next election cycle, or better yet, on her third/fourth in 8 years. Nice and seasoned. I say Palin/Jindal in 2016...!

It's funny... I don't recall anyone saying what a great job Obama's speech writer did during the DNC. I'll keep looking though.

Seems clear to me after seeing Obamas "performance" at Saddleback shows that he needs the speech writer. He's great at expressing others ideas.

As far as Sarah Palin, I understand that her teleprompter was not working properly, and the second half of the speech was part from memory and part ad lib. Like her politics or don't- in that envoronment, under that pressure... that was impressive.

I'm just glad to see a thread without the usual Lexus vs BMW drivel.

Enough of this political tripe! This is an auto enthusiast website, not Crossfire!

Back to things automotive. I can forgive her for driving a Suburban because she lives in Alaska (lots of snow), hunts/fishes/camps (lots of off-road driving), and has a large family. People like that have very good reasons for driving huge gas-guzzling SUVs. That Suburban might also do double duty as the governor's limo.

She probably uses the fuel-efficient Jetta TDI wagon for commuting and running errands. (I could say that diesels have small carbon footprints as well, but I'm skeptical about anthropogenic global warning theories.) Sounds like a sensible lady when it comes to choosing cars.

I can’t wait for the debates (which will be the deciding factor for me), especially when they discuss their energy policies. While Obama and McCain have similar views on energy policies, they differ a lot on their methods. Hopefully, the debates will clear up both of their nebulous stances on their methods. Impressively, Palin is the only one of the four who has actually executed on alternative energy resources instead of just talking about it, and she drives a diesel! Is the Suburban a diesel, also?
