There is warning issued by the US government saying that the satellite navigation, upon which a lot of motorists depend on, could start to fail next year.

This is due, according to reports, to mismanagement and under-investment in US satellite system by the US Air Force. The 20-year-old GPS is in dire need of upgrading to stop it from deteriorating, said officials.

The Navstar GPS, as the system is known, is already over budget by about ?562 million and setbacks have further delayed its development. Due two years ago, the first replacement satellite will be sent into space this November. Both military and civilian systems could be affected by this lack of investment. It has not been guaranteed if the Air Force can get a new satellite to prevent service interruption.
