Scion looking at hybrids
After a bright start six years ago Scion’s sales have tanked and unless action is taken things are set to get worse. The Toyota budget brand sold just 130,000 cars last year, down 25% on the previous year, and officials are predicting volumes to remain unchanged this year. Most of the blame has been directed towards Scion’s limited lineup, although a weak car market was also a factor in the equation.

Scion has developed a new turnaround plan, which involves adding a host of new models and several technological innovations.

This is just me, however wasn't the whole concept of inventing Scion to create a cheap, small, fun and AFFORDABLE car? By giving Scion a hybrid powertrain, arent they going to have to raise the price of their vehicles to compensate...follow me here...and then wouldn't they cost the same as its parent company Toyota? So why would the seperate brand exist, if the are going to be sold at the same level as the parent company?

Besides, don't the A,B,C and D already get good gas milage?

A Scion hybrid somewhat alienates the whole culture of the brand. People that buy Scions are buying air intakes, exhausts, body kits, adding suicide doors, lambo doors, neons, etc. Not to put down our eco-friendly friends, but when was the last time you saw a tricked out Prius? Not saying the idea is a bad thing because part of Scion's whole philosophy is economy cars, but to those really into the culture, might not like the idea.

Very astute comment. I like your thinking on this. This is the kind of analysis that Scion's execs will be looking at before making any decisions. Scion is different from the mainstream mfrs.

Duh...EVERYONE has and will be adding it to their lineup. It's the fastest/easiest way right now to meet the soon-to-be regulations until the next big thing (hydrogen or whatever) hits.

The tC is the only decent looking Scion. Crappy designs is what's hurting Scion the most, considering the Yaris doesn't cost much more but is better looking.

Price will probably only go up by about $1000 with the next gen SD system. If it gets 25% better fuel economy, it'll be well worth it.

this may be an attempt to offer the most affordable hybrid yet.

just as Lexus offers NO 4-Bngers to dilute their image, Prius and toyota/lexus Hybrids generally have established a rep for HIGH QUALIY and efficiency at but a modest premium. (not so modest with Lexus models)

a Scion hybrid could become a true mass market, entry level hybrid.
