Shafted: Game Show Winner Claims New Car Was A Wreck?
The price was all wrong for one contestant on "The Price Is Right" who claims the TV game show and its authorized auto dealership tried to pass off a rehabilitated wreck as a new car she won.

Donna Tillman said she won the 2004 Pontiac GTO Coupe during her June 28, 2004, appearance on the game show. But she was told after she paid the taxes and license fees that the vehicle that appeared on the stage had mechanical problems, according to a lawsuit filed on Thursday in Los Angeles.

They should have simply done the RIGHT thing and given her another (identically speced) vehicle - Immediately!

Hello CarFax. I know why people ask for CarFaxes on new cars too. ha ha ha And yes, you can pull a carfax on a new car but there won't be any info on it.....then again maybe that body/frame work will show up. ha ha ha

Well...

It's Automotive, and (arguably) Misc News.

I think it is automotive news and another example of crooks in the industry.

Well, didn't Pontiac do the same thing to the buying public, selling a wreck of a car as a true GTO?

Yeah, it was a world class 400hp (350hp in 2004) wreck selling for $33k US dollars. Even Clarkson like this car, but it isn't good enough for you. You have fan boy written all over.

GTO's a freakin sled. You'd agree too if you'd ever driven one.

That's pretty crazy to be given a fixed wrecked car, especially damage to the frame. I wonder if this has happened before...

The car wasn't wrecked...it was a Pontiac...duh!!!
On the real though...a Mercedes dealer in the Chicagoland area tried the same thing with me. Turns out the GMs wife had wrecked the car a month after getting it and they fixed it. Tried to sell it as a demo.

The dealership I worked at did this a lot. Any dealership that has its own in-house bodyshop is at risk for this, because it can all be done under the table.
