Should more cars feature the Lexus IS-F stacked double exhaust treatment
I have to admit, when I first saw the stacked exhaust pipes on the Lexus IS-F, I was not sold at first on the design.

But since then, it's been growing on me.

And now that I see our friends at AutoCouture offer some kits that can put them on the LS-Series and on the Mercedes S-Class, I'm kind of stoked at the look.

What say you?

STUD or DUD?

No. The LS's standard exhausts are gorgeous, and so are those found on the S550 AMG, S63/S65 and S600 (but not the normal S550--you can't see them).

In general, stacked exhausts are an interesting idea, but I don't think they were very well-executed (or well-integrated) on the IS-F.

once again, i gotta agree with s4, the LS looks great. the isf stacked exhaust doesnt blend in as well, but i dont think thats its ugly. i dont think that just the stacked exhaust can make a car or break it. there are so many different ways to design it and incorporate it into the rear bumper, that each application may or may not look good on a specific car. in other words, for some1 to say that a stacked exhaust is just "ugly" makes no sense. As long as it has a purpose and it is designed properly, i like it.

i agree--the stock LS's exhausts are nice and the mods look just out of place

Why would you buy S-class and turn in into LS?

Those are hideous.

Just go get LS...

The stacked tailpipes never bothered me. I was surprised at how many people hate them. Nevertheless, I think they look fine on this as well. Who knew the IS-F was a trend setter?

I beg your pardon?

the IS (first and second gen) has started a couple trends that has grown to be very popular.

first was the infamous altezza tail lights...everyone had them, and don't try and cover up that you didnt think they look HOT when it first came out. you know you searched ebay to see if the lights were made for your specific vehicle!!! lmao...

now the stacked exhaust, many aftermarket (high-end) has been incorporating them into their designs.....companies the likes of mansory and autocouture

its not to long before we see them pasted all over ebay and on the next civic the drives by.

Altezza tailights = rice. Pure and simple. Ugly, overdone, distastful RICE.

Everytime I see a IS with them I cringe.

yet BMW initially had them on the 1-series I think, when spy shots came out about 2 years ago.

IS350, they dont really hate the stacked tailights, they're jut an easy target because the car is so awesome.

Those IS200 taillights screamed cheapness. They were horrid.

As for the stacked exhausts, Mansory or whatever started it. But definitely NOT Lexus.

What heck were they thinking when they put that stack exhausts on the Lexus LS? The current exhausts on the Lexus LS is very handsome compare to this ugly exhausts.

The stack exhausts look better on the Lexus IS-F, and let keep it as that.

forget the ugly exhaust ... look at that photo.

Can Lexus build a car that looks more like a Benz than this?
It looks more like a Benz than what MB is selling!
Why do they have such a fetish with copying Mercedes?
Aren't they old enough to go out into the world on their own now?

DeieselRules, give me a break bro, the new S-class frontlights and rearlights remind me of the last Toyota Camry Gen.

Not only that, MB and other automaker began copying Toyota/Lexus in making hybrid.

It's a bit like that tuner.. erhm.. Mansory I think. They have been mounting stacked exhausts for years now.

Standard exhaust looks perfect, this is just horrid.

I agree with S4 on this issue. I prefer the nonstacked exhausts found on the LS model.

But forget about aesthetics for a moment. (The IS-F is not a beautiful car to begin with, in my humble opinion.) These stacked pipes are NONFUNCTIONAL - strictly for show! No thanks!

Aftermarket companies have been doing it for years. So, Lexus was not the first person to do it. It is a ricer thing and that is why Lexus went in that direction. It is amazing how much people say that Lexus wants to be just like MB, I mean average folks who dont care about cars. Lexus will continue to be a ripoff artist.

The LS460 looks even more beautiful with a little bit of customization, its by far nicer than the S class.
But as far as the article goes, these pipes look cheep on both cars, so no stick with the original ones, especially to the LS.

i can hardly control my laughter. park the LS next to an S550 or a quattroporte or an A8 and the lexus just fades away into the woodwork. yes, it looks very nice...nothing offensive about it. but it's also totally derivative.

I must agree with enthusiast. It's aesthetically pleasing, and quite nice if you get the LS600hL wheels, but it just can't stand up to the S-Class (incredible road presence/drama), A8 (elegance/gorgeous proportions) or Maser. Of course, it's unfair to compare the Quattroporte to any other sedan because it will always look better.

DUD, I think the stacked exhaust is really tacky. I prefer the Exhaust Side by Side like on AMG's. But that's just my opinion.

Hopefully no one will copy the stacked exhaust like they copied the Altezza's chrome tail lights.

Hopefully Lexus will put full exhaust pipes out next year as well.

Chrome taillights???

And, I hope you know, the clear lenses were there long before the IS300/Altezza and the stacked exhausts were here before the IS-F... neither is in good taste, though.
