Showdown :Lexus ISF Versus Audi RS4 Showdown (Video)
This latest viral video goodness features the new Lexus ISF versus the Audi RS4. 416 Japanese horsepower versus 420 German horsepower - which one takes the cake in the showdown? The scene for the showdown is the Vmax Redline 2008. Also as a side note, this is one of the Lexus ISF first races on UK soil,so it had a lot of pressure to live up to. Watch the video to see who wins.

Depends on the driver, some races maybe the RS will win, but i'm not a fan of AWD.

you do know both have auto transmission (DSG can be consider as auto), the performance figure will be solely depend on power/weight and transmission. it has very little to do with driver since basically all you need to do is to floor the gas.

nvm. i was mis-informed.
i agree, since rs4 is manual gear box, it should have few tries and take the best number.
however, the 420 hp RS4 should easily beat 416 hp IS-F since the manual gear box holds a lot higher efficiency than auto.

I'm assuming they turned off traction and stability control, and used the manual mode on the IS-F. Without the computer helping you, I'm sure it still takes skill to control that beast.

Fact is Automatic, Manu-Automatic, DSG etc. will be much more consistent and faster(the later) then a full manual transmission. When you put the human element into anything you are bound to run across inefficiencies and mistakes vs a computer controlled machine......
....unless it was driven by 3/4 of the fan boys on this site who love to criticize drivers on edmunds, car driver, best motoring, fifth gear, top gear etc. ,whom live and breath vehicles for a living, for not driving up to their standards. <yawn>

None-the-less, good run by the ISF, seems like a worthy competitor to the M3.
Toyota did well on it's first try and it will only keep the other car makers stay on their toes.
I say this is how the market will fall:
C63 will rule in a straighline
M3 will rule in handling and on the track
RS4 will be the best daily driver(AWD)
ISF will be the jack of all trades.
ISF may have a chance at beating the M3 in a straight(although most reports from mags comming in say no) but on the track I say it will come second. Though initial dynojet results show the M3 @ 350whp and ISF @ 333whp, that coupled with the lower weight for the M3 and DCT should make things interesting.
C63 will destroy all in a straight line, no contest.

Of course the IS-F is going to win...it was running on the inside of the track. Now make it run on the outside of the track like the audi and see who wins.

I would say it's pretty close. Even though the IS-F was on the inside, it looked like the IS-F beat the RS4 in the strait-away each time. The RS4 seemed to catch up to the IS-F around the corners.

Edmunds' time on the IS-F does seem slower than most of the 0-60 tests I've seen on the Lexus, however, it was in the same test that the RS4 did 4.3. Furthermore, in the original video I'm sure that the RS4 driver was cautious of burning his clutch. Something that's easy to do when your trying to do a maximum launch on an AWD performance car.

^^Edmunds.com always get poor times, no matter what the car. They should be names "slowed Times." They get the slowest times of all.

The Audi RS4 got own really bad, both of them are incredible car thought. But the Lexus IS-F definitely own the Audi RS4 this time for sure.
And the funny thing, this is Lexus first true attempt to challenge the German Sports sedan segment. Wow......
Dear Santa, I know it March, but please put me down for a Red Lexus IS-F for this coming Christmas Season!
Congratulation to Lexus

Things to remember:
1. 2007 RS4 v. 2008 IS-F.
2. RS4 outside track v. IS-F inside track
3. Top speeds are governed at different levels.

Things to remember - in 5 years no one will care which one won in 2008. Lexus will continue to improve its IS at a faster rate than Audi can with the limited edition RS4, and so by 2013 Lexus will be so much better than the Audi that we'll think it was always the case.

Does the "Lexus IS-F 172mph" that appears at the end of the video signify the speed it reached on the straight? If so then the Audi couldn't win as its limited to 155mph.

The skunkworks team that developed the IS-F are not new to performance development. whilst I personally dont like the styling of the car, Lexus hit the nail right on the head in terms of engineering it. The handling of the car was developed using a Porsche

The car will probably suffer because of stereotypes and selective perception, otherwise it a great sports sedan with a great engine too plus it beats the emmisions taxes, the only one in its class tn do so! The M3, C63,IS-F, RS4 are incredible cars.

wow, look how the ISF driver slowed down and let the RS4 to pass him then he stepped on it and smoked the RS4.
Now this said, I think the soon to come out next generation RS4 will be much more powerful, so watch out ISF. And as far as the ISF the engineers at Lexus BETTER add more power to its bit 5.0 as that thing can produce MUCH more than the 416 hps, so let them all out if you really want to lead.

First of all it is not a handling test, so this does not prove which car is better, certainly in straight line performance, the ISF is a second or so quicker.
And it is unfair to say that Toyota has done no motorsport to get here when they can build an M3 rivaling performance car. Toyota has been doing japanese endurance race for years. And even though they are a failure in F1, atleast they are participating. And i know that they bought their F1 team from some previous team. But in terms of building production cars Really, it is not as if like Toyota is using it's money to buy technologies from others, they are building all of it by themselves, the engine, the transmission, the chassis. So Toyota must be congratulated for possessing the engineering prowess that can make a car like ISF.

It think it all comes down to the driver's reaction. The IS-F driver could have jumped quicker than the RS4. It wasn't like the IS-F was pulling away from the Audi.

In the end, who cares? Even if anyone who commented above could actually afford to buy either of these fine cars we're still going to buy what tickles our fancy the most and not rely on a youtube video or performance figuers on some car magazine.
