I like the look of the Audi more than the bimmer from the front as the lines are firmer... whereas the rear has similar softness issues to the bimmer.

I didn't start liking this A5 until it was next to the new 3 Series. The new 3 series coupe does not look so nice no more, very feminine lines now. The A5's front fenders look very muscular next to the 3 series.

I can't wait to see one in person. Saw a 335i in person before and loved it. If this A5 is much better looking, especially the aggressive front end, I don't know how I'll react when I see it on the road.

I think the A5 is a decent enough looking coupe but this image comparison isn't going to help. First, those aren't actually photos of either car, they're computer images with different shading and uses of reflection in each one. The cars are also at different angles with simulated shadows and not actually on a road or anything. Finally, and most importantly, the scale of the cars is not the same. Based on the people in the car the A5 has looked bigger than the 3 coupe in all the photos I've seen. Here you have a smaller image of a bigger A5 next to a bigger image of a smaller 335i. That's going to make the A5 look sportier than it is.

However, both the A5 and the new 3 coupe both are attractive cars!

The A5 is the replacement for the A4 Cabriolet (A5 Cabriolet will be the direct replacement). It won't be much, if any, longer than the next-gen A4 sedan and will be priced to compete with the 3 Series coupe.

The price of A5 should be in between A4 and A6,
nowhere close to the CL or 6.
RS5 should be up there in the $70-80grand range.

Lexus,
The IS350/IS-F and even the A4/RS4 is not in this segment. We are comparing 'coupe's' here not sport sedans. The IS,G35,& A4/RS4 TL sedans are good in their own ways no doubt. However we're not talking about entry level luxury sports sedans. We're talking about coupe's.
IMO the G coupe, 3 series coupe, & A5 will be great contenders. I also was reading this Japanese car magazine that showed this concept of an Acura sports car as well. If it's in the range of the A5/G/3 it will be another great contender in this on-going battle between these coupes. I can't wait!

I laugh at all of the Audi haters on this site. You express your opinions without any basis in fact at all. You think BMW, MB, Lexus or Infiniti are the best based on blah blah blah. I don't see how most of you even consider yourselves car enthusiasts. I think most of you are probably car "salespeople" for your respective "favorite" brands but not enthusiasts. If you were, you'd have more respect for what is being done by the many brands in the marketplace. No single brand is good at everything. Some brands have specialty areas that they are well known for. If that specialty area is what appeals to you, then go buy one. For Lexus, its all about overall reliability. If that's what blows your skirt up then go buy one and be happy. For BMW its all about handling, if you think you are the ultimate driver and have your SCCA license and frequiently race on Sundays, then go buy one and be happy. For MB is all about ultimate power and prestige. If you feel that you just absolutely need 500-600hp under the hood to haul your ass to work everyday or just need the ego boost, then go buy one and be happy.
My point is, I think all of these brands are really great cars. I respect the engineering that goes into each and every one. I don't buy anything based on what kind of image I want to portray to others. In fact, I could care less what you think of me or the kind of car I prefer to drive!
My brand preference happens to be Audi right now. I love the beautiful design and craftsmanship that goes into each and every one. It looks and feels to me like someone really cared about what they were doing when they built it. The blend of colors and materials used is absolutely first rate no matter who you compare them to. Audi's exterior designs straddle a fine line between being muscular and elegant at the same time. That is a very difficult concept to accomplish and I feel they do it better than anyone else out there right now. They appear almost as works of art to me. The engineering is sound despite what others say. I have met these guys in person and have had several conversations about this that and the other. You know what? Most of them have come from other brands such as BMW,MB,Porsche, Alfa Romeo, Lamborghini and many others. Most of them have all gone to the same schools and have PHDs after their names. Many of the parts used in Audi's come from the same place as many other brands such as Bosch and Siemens.
I do not think they are boring cars. I am often amazed at how they feel so planted and sure footed even at triple digit speeds. Going fast is no big deal in an Audi. I even feel safe doing it. I have owned and driven many brands that have not given me the same feeling behind the wheel. Maybe those brands are just trying to add to the excitement of driving the thing, but I don't see it that way. I see it as flawed engineering.
This new A5 coupe is a masterpiece of design and engineering. I like the way they m

The 3.1 (actual displacement) V6 is far from dated. It gets nice power and fuel economy. Of course it is on the small side, but it has more power and better/equal fuel economy of the BMW 328 engine. Nothing wrong with it. Just because it isn't bored out doesn't make it outdated.

M53R, you'd just buy it because it's a BMW? That's not logic.
I would buy whichever one I got a better price on- they're both beautiful!
chewy, don't try to make excuses. The 3.1L is underpowered and boring. One magazine said the A6 "3.2" drove like an expensive Camry. They need to put the 3.6L (with 300+hp) in their mainstream cars.

Buy whichever one you get a better price on? That's silly, they're different cars. How about you buy whichever one you like more? Anyone who can afford one of these cars can afford the other one instead.

Again, it isn't under powered. It is smaller for sure, but that doesn't make it a bad engine. The VW 3.6 V6 isn't made to be put in Audis like the A5 because it is a Westj-East engine and not North-South. The A6 with the 3.1 V6 isn't that quick because the A6 is quite heavy. But if you look at the specs the BMW 328 has less power, much less torque. And it has worse fuel economy in the all wheel drive version. So there is nothing wrong witht the engine except it is a bit smaller.

Fine. The A5 is a great looking car.
But not only is the angle and scale of the two off, the image of the 3er is that of the "taller", all wheel drive xi. So really, until you see the two cars side-by-side sitting parked somewhere it's difficult to say one way or the other, which one is better looking. It’s very subjective. In a coupe, the performance should be more important.

Audi is really pushing their designs to the limit on this one. It is a wonderful automobile to look at.
But...
If you look closely, Mr. Bangle or shall I say all of the BMW designers have turned the automotive business upside down with their "flame surfacing" designs.
Everybody is jumping into Chris Bangles philosophy of design. And he was right all this time, the automotive business needs something new. This is the direction everybody is headed. Which is a good thing.
Now the competition is fiercer than ever.

I'd really have to see both of them side by side in PERSON to make a decion as to which one I would take home. I know the 335i with the aero package and 19 x 10 rear tires and 19 x 9 front tires is one fine piece of work.

The dimensions between the 3 series coupe and the A5/S5 are nearly identical except for the width as the A5/S5 is 3 inches wider. This new Audi should not be compared with the BMW 6 series. The A5/S5 is a smaller car, and both makes are at a different price point. I informed Autoweek of this false comparison as well.
