Side by side photos: Is the 2008 Infiniti G37 coupe better looking than the car it is replacing?
As you know, AutoSpies.com has been giving you the best close-up coverage of the 2008 Infiniti G37 coupe, set to go on sale at dealers in the USA on August 21st.

We're not really supposed to tell you this but there will be special sneak previews of the car at Infiniti dealers on August 16th, so if you want to see it in person earlier than the official launch date, give your local dealer a jingle and see if they will give you an invite.

When it hits dealer lots it will be replacing one of the most beautiful cars ever in our opinion, the G35 Coupe.

That is one tough act to follow and everyone knows messing with success can be a real challenge sometimes.

The question we want to ask is…Is the 2008 Infiniti G37 Coupe BETTER looking than its predecessor?

We’ve got the first sided by side photos so you can compare and give us your verdict.

Tell us your thoughts in detail.

Game on!

The rear end kills it for me.

It looks like nothing from the back.

The grill is a lot better on the G37, though.

Not much difference at the back, but I love the "CLS like" front part.

I agree. I give the G37 a slight edge over the G35 because I like the front of the new car better.

G37 is the right evolution to the original.....nicely done

the g37 looks better. im glad they kept the design of the front bumper with the 2 vents as opposed to the one on the test mules with 2 vents and a central vent ordinarily found on most cars.

much more unique and similar to the f430 design.

I was just about to say...What happened to the other front bumper?

G37 front looks better w/ chrome around and the higher transparency of headlights. However, instead of the L shape light, which matches rear light since G35, it should stay w/ the vertical light that reminds of Porsche and NISSAN design language.

G35 rear looks better w/ a cleaner cut of volume and clearer articulated form. G37 rear has a stupid chrome deck lid and is too rounded. The corners around dual exhausts are just thick rims instead of a clean cuts.

I agree on the rear. Have to see it in person. Although the 1st Gen looks cleaner. I like the new headlights better, although, I think the new G35 sedan headlights look meaner, because they are somewhat thinner/slantier

I say its a draw...G37 looks better from the front with a touch more sport but G35 has a nicer profile and rear. Especially tail lights. Much nicer than the G37.

Or maybe I should say not better/worse but different.

Hard to improve on a car that is destined to become a classic.

I agree completely with you.

The current G35 is not so agressive from the front but the G37 is very agressive and sporty.

G35 rear looks more edgy but it's just my opinion.

I think G37 looks better.Much sleeker and squarish.
The G35 Coupe was more round.

Usually, when things are more round, they are sleeker. What you said was basically a contradiction in itself.

For instance, my car, which is generally considered to be rounded, is more sleek than the Mercedes-Benz G-Class.

Oh- but I happen to think the old model was more square, and the new one flows more and is rounded at the edges.

I don't like the rear lights as much on the G37 as the G35. Otherwise I think the 37 is a nice evolution of the 35. It seems less bulbous and there is more surface detailing of the front and rear giving it a more sleek look.

I'm sorry all, but I like the G35 much, much better than the new G37, which tends to look more like the $10,000 cheaper Nissan Altima coupe.

Better? Sure. It has crisper lines than the soft G35 (thank BMW for the direction). Front looks more aggressive, but personally prefer the back of the G35. Tiny rear spoiler looks silly.

Overall, I still don't care for the dressed-up Nissan 350Z styling. Not very original. Interior is rather plain and unappealing as well, which is not much of an improvement over the G35.

I think the G37 and G35 look EXACTLY alike, except on the G37 is looks a little bit like the 350 z because of its headlights

Neither one is really a looker. I have trouble telling them apart unless they are side by side. This evolutionary styling is a bit better than the Mini's which really look identical. I can only tell Mini's apart by noting the location of the plastic gills on the hood.

If you look good when you are young and still keep yourself nice as you get older that is the key, i think the new G looks great!

I second 001, almost exactly.

While I haven't seen it in person (up close), the G37's front end is flowing and sexy, an improvement over the previous model's more stodgy affair. On the other hand, the side profile and rear end of the G35 coupe seems more elegant than the new model, and fits in with the overall design better. The G35 coupe will become a classic design, no doubt. I'm sad to see it go- but hopefully the G37 will impress me.

I think I will give the edge here to the g35 only because the G35 pictured here has the sport package. The G37 NON sport pictured here actually looks a little soft to me. I actually like the g37 SPORT(with the 19" wheels and spoiler) better than the g35 though.

The G35 was a work of art and an original. The G37 is an expensive Hyundai Tiburon.

@senorgato

The G35 was the 11TH generation skyline so there is nothing original about it, and hoe can you say the G37 looks like a hyundai.

Don't jump to that conclusion GS...I myself, can find a car beautiful and respect its performance w/o picking it as my favorite. Case in point, I like your car, but it's not my favorite in it's class.

Also, this is a topic most of us think about. The G car was Infiniti's first 'real' success, so transition into the next gen is going to create a buzz.

I feel as though the new 3 coupe and G coupe got the same treatment - better looking front end, not as good looking rear...funny how it worked out like that (In my opinion, of course).

The new G has lost its edge. When the original came out it was fresh and new. This new G seems toned down, easily lost in a crowd. The same goes for the sedan.

I gotta go with the G37, its much sexier than the the previous model. The G35 was a great start but it had to evolve and I like what they did with it, headlights and all. Sorry, its just hard for me to nit-pick on a car like this, Infiniti did a great job.

This is the same problem with the Current and last generation of the Dodge Cravan, Grand Cherokee & Jaguar XJ. Too conservative a makeover. Looks more like a typical mid-cycle model update.
