Silvia Sucessor
With all of the excitement surrounding the next-generation Nissan 370Z, it's sometimes easy to forget that its little rear-wheel-drive brother is on the way, as well. A few weeks ago, we shared some info about this future Nissan RWD coupe, and now we have an official photo to share that popped up at a Nissan GT 2012 meeting. Although fuzzy, it shows a bulging rear fender flare, tiny rear quarter window and swoopy side that we've already seen on some unofficial renderings. As we recently reported, Nissan has kicked development of its future 240SX replacement into high gear after hearing that the Toyota/Subaru coupe is coming along nicely.

Expected to be based on a shortened version of the Z's FM platform and dubbed FR, the new coupe should be powered by either a naturally aspirated 2.0L or possibly a 1.6L or 1.8L turbocharged four-cylinder. Speculation is that the S15 Silvia successor will be approximately 4,350 mm long, 1,750 mm wide and share the same wheelbase as the Z. Low weight and low price are key, and just like with its competitors from Subaru and Toyota, Nissan wants to keep the curb weight low, along with the price. We expect Nissan to beat Toyota to the punch by debuting the coupe in 2010, a full year before the Toyota/Subaru.

Having Lived/Been Stationed In Japan For More Than 10 Years, I Owned A Very Nice Silvia K's Back In 1999, And Couldn't Believe How Different A Vehicle It Was From The US 240SX.

If Nissan Can Match The Power/Dynamics Of The Last Gen JDM Silvia/180 WIth This New One, They'll Have A True Winner On Their Hands.

true enuff, homer. i was living in california thru the late '60s, mid '70s.

i saw a cutaway display of a (Nissan) Datsun 510 in the late '60s. that 'lowly' sedan (actually there was a 1200cc model slotted even lower) matched or beat the comparable BMWs of the day!

the 510s became very popular on the road race circuits, and were HIGHLY COMPETITIVE.

I was stationed in Oki back in the early 90s. There are some very interesting cars over there. Some kick ass, some are just... strange. I remember seeing a Toyota "we've", Suzuki "Joypop", and other oddballs. I had a Nissan Auster while I was there.

The drag races on 58 were pretty cool, those kids could get some very impressive power out of some of those little cars. A buddy of mine had a stripped down and heavily modified Hachiroku. That thing was nuts.. Took me by complete surprise the first time I went for a ride in it.

Awesome news to me, glad to see my post made it

The small rwd segment of cars should be a nice one w/ Hyundai, Nissan, and others joining in
