2009 will see Skoda with some great plans.

At the inauguration of its new technology facility in Mlada Boleslav in the Czech Republic Reinhard Jung, Skoda chairman, spoke about two brand new vehicles for next year. First, the brand new Yeti compact SUV, which will showcase at UK showrooms in late summer.

Created to rival the likes of the Ford Kuga and Toyota RAV4, the Yeti is all-terrain vehicle with a full-time 4×4 system by Haldex, with a choice of a front-wheel-drive variant for tarmac-only drivers.

Nice Cars - We rented an Octavia with that turbo-diesel engine...It was a bomb, so much torque, went over 210km/hr ( approx. 140 mph+ ) on the Autobahns in Germany,Switzerland and Austraia as well as the Autostrada in Italia ... AMAZING !!!

Techgeek, impressive mileage you were getting! I can only assume we don't have many efficient vehicles in north America is because our governments like to collect gas tax? This is a sporty looking car, utility? I wouldn't take it hunting through the mountains in a foot of snow.lol What should we call SUV's that are meant for off road use? Like the Jeep Rubicon? I would like to see this in a four door with a third row and a pre runner package with full skid plates with larger tires and capable of running the baja 1000 in stock form.

You don't want to put a real skid-plate and big wheel/tire package on this ... you'd radically increase the weight, making it a dog!
Remember, its competing with the RAV-4, which is a vehicle that can break simply by driving onto your lawn.
These are NOT off-road vehicles, by any stretch.
But AWD is nice for getting up the parking ramp at Sears when its snowing.

Why do people spot conspiracy everywhere?

Europe has much higher gas taxes that the USA. That's why fuel is much more expensive here.

You have a lot of efficient vehicles only don't like to buy them preferring something larger, safer, more wasteful and powerful.

And be careful with diesel propaganda. In Europe many cars with compression ignition already started not to pay off because the prices of petrol and diesel equalized (diesel was much cheaper when its frenzy started here) and there's a price and maintenance premium and reliability penalty when buying a modern diesel car (extremely high pressure fuel pump, fine injectors fragile to fuel quality, variable vane turbocharger, particulate filter, NOx reduction catalyst, double mass flywheel, more expensive and heavier engine block, heavier gears to withstand torque).

If you don't believe me, use Edmund's True Cost to Own web tool and compare Golf/Rabbit TDI with its petrol equivalent.
