Smart and Mercedes-Benz electric cars coming by 2010
After outlining its green ‘Road to the Future’ in a very long press release that we attempted to pull apart earlier this week, Daimler is now saying that it wants its two electric cars in 2010 in order to take on Toyota and GM’s upcoming electric cars.

Daimler CEO, Dieter Zetsche, said that the company wants to have an electric version of the Smart car and a electric version of a Mercedes-Benz by the 2010. Speaking to Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitungn, Zetsche said the price will depend on whether the electric batteries will be sold together with the car or whether the batteries would be leased instead.

Of course most of us know that Daimler will most likely offer an electric...

Lol you speak of this like Lexus has never rebadged a car in their existence. It's not like Lexus don't still use Toyota parts. Give me a break. Only a fanboy would say such a thing.

They don't use the same parts. They may be made my the same manufacturer "Densco" but not the exact same parts like BMW does with the Mini Cooper and Mercedes does with the Smart. Lexus and Toyota did a seperation a few years back.

That is where you're wrong. My friend who is a salesman & former tech at a local dealership told me certain parts are still shared. Some even say Toyota on them. Believe what you want but my friend has no reason to lie to me. I believe him i've seen such claims on an RX350 before. I thought they were 100% different but of course when a company grows you cut corners, sacrificing some quality and part exclusivity.

Leasing a battery that is a win-win concept! Nice to see MB cares about there customers and is not stiffing the customer with a dead battery after 7 years ala prius!

Ha just wait. After 7 years the replacement battery and labor will be worth more than the Pius itself. And how will the batteries be disposed? Hmmmmm the questions no one would ask.

Sounds interesting, although not as impressive as PML's car,Pml's car has 4 electric motors producing a total of 640hp! And four hours of battery time and once the generator kicks in it then produces 80mpg!

I cant believe that they are investing in this when they are so close to a production hydrogen powerd car.

I am no expert but it is my understanding that it takes twice the gas to produce the equivalent hydrogen, that doesn't sound too green. Although if it were produced with solar/wind or tidal it would be 100% clean and renewable. What about the guy that ran his car on 100% water, he was murdered because he didn't take the billion dollar buyout, what corruption we have for a democracy! The companies dictate what happens not the voting public.

The Smart is badged as MB but is made by Smart. If you want MB then go with the B-class.
