So What Does The Press Know? Can You Guess The Top 10 Rated Vehicles By CONSUMER's?
We in the press can give you list after list telling you what we think are the best cars but the only thing that REALLY matters, is what CONSUMER'S think, because they are the ones actually voting with their wallets.

So it's interesting to see how different their top ten list is, compared to all of ours in the press.

To us it's both surprising AND depressing.

Boy, do all of us need to do a much better job educating the critical masses!!!

Top 10 Highest Ranked Vehicles By Consumer's

1. 2008 Ford Escape

2. 2008 Porsche Cayenne

S4cabriofoxone,-"1. 2008 Ford Escape"Why?

Since I own one I think I can answer this. The car has a unique appearance. Muscular and 'tough'. The driving dynamics aren't great but aren't intrusive. With the V6 and auto FWD model we have gas mileage is averaging about 23 mpg, lots of city and some highway. The interior has a distinctive and mature shape. While I don't like the radio layout with all the buttons it is functional. The electric steering is really light at parking lot speeds and actually has some weight (but not much feedback) on the highway. The seats are comfortable on long trips and have a nice texture. In comparing the interior materials to ones in the same class at the St. Louis Auto show the Escape was certainly at or near the top of its class.

While I would have preferred a sportier vehicle, read sports sedan, this car was for my wife to drive everyday. She wanted a small SUV and for us the Escape made sense.

All in all it isn't a bad vehicle.

am i the only one who is able to purchase a car without my wifes suggestion/recommendation/advice/approval?

It isn't that I purchased it with her approval. I am in school she is making the money and the car was for her.

Why should I decide what she should drive?

Thank you for that comment. I had no idea. So it's a massive improvement over the last Escape?

I do have to say it looks a LOT better than before.

Consumer's = possessive (consumer's car)

Consumers = plural (So What Does The Press Know? Can You Guess The Top 10 Rated Vehicles By CONSUMERS?)

I'd think that being from Auto Trader, its the top 10 USED cars researched.
I don't think folks buying new cars are trolling through Auto Trader.

Interesting that Tahoe, Yukon, and the German SUV twins (Touareg & Cayenne) are all prominent.
Does this suggest that these are cars that people would like to have, but wouldn't splurge for a new one?

Acura RL?????

It's a good car but the 13 people who actually bought one must REALLY like it!

True. If you take the very few RL owners and ask them for their thoughts on the car, I can imagine them saying they got an excellent deal considering the low sales. There has to be all kind of incentives for buying the thing.

Sounds like CR is full of it again. Makes no sense. VW? I thought they kept carping on VW's poor reliability? Now they recommend one? Huh!?

Read the article.....this list has nothing to do with consumer reports. This list is from Auto Traders responses from actual consumers. This list has nothing to do with reliability or recommendations.

Meaning what - exactly? That the PRESS should TELL consumers what they SHOULD like?

I thought the VW's were among the lowest in ratings. Some of the others I agree with though, even though the RL is a slow seller, it's put together well.

This survey is meaningless. Just found the details on AutoTrader. It's based on anonymous customer surveys. Most of the cars have 1 respondent!!!

I'm not surprised about the Jetta but it is quite obvious and predictable that gas prices aside the majority of people still prefer SUV's and are not driving enthusiasts. I'm rather surprised that there is no Toyota, or Lexus listed. I'm not a Toyota or Lexus person. However being that Toyota has been the hottest selling brand in the US for some time it's surprising that it did not make the top 10. I don't think people can be educated to be car enthusiasts. People want space and comfort over anything else.

The top 10 cars for what? This is just dumb. You want to know what the consumer thinks are the 10 best cars, look at the 10 best selling vehicles...
