Spied: 2010 Maserati Quattroporte
The Maserati Quattroporte looks set for a more extensive facelift than we were expecting, if these latest spy shots from Italy are anything to go by.

Our spies say they’ve not seen such heavy cladding on a Quattroporte prototype before, which suggests that the 2010 model’s front end will be heavily reworked. A new-look grille should bring the Quattroporte’s looks in line with that of its more aggressive sibling coupé, the GranTurismo.

Meanwhile, bigger front air intakes will feed a new direct-injection engine, likely to be related to the unit that powers the recently unveiled Ferrari California.

I think that Maserati should attempt to move forward the redesign of this car.

When the Quattroporte came out in 2004 or so, I really liked it, but as time has gone by and my experience of the vehicle has increased, that feeling has waned. I suppose I am no longer blinded by the fact that it is a Maserati. honestly, I can see my like of the current S-class being more enduring than that of the QP.

I understand that they were attempting to create a subdued classicism in the exterior, but really that only works with already classic design. In my mind the front and the back are just fine, the problem is when you view the car perpendicular- directly from the side. It looks dated from that vantage, I believe because of the relationship of the windows to the body. There are other things...the car has a shocking amount of plastic in it, and the try tables are of the poorest design and execution that I have ever seen.

I understand that it was really the first iteration of this version after they had picked up the mantle of Quattroporte again, but they can do better. I just hope they do it sooner rather than later.

I really like the looks of the QP overall except the front-end. The IP also looks very 1995, which makes it less desirable than, say the new S-class.

I would parlay the $125,000 entry fee of the QP and get a new S63 instead. The new S-class (an its CL-class sibling) is undoubtedly the finest Mercedes in a generation.

I would much rather have the lowest QP than an S65. Speed is no replacement for handling and road feel.

If it gets the GT's front end and a horsepower increase, it will be perfection.

The GT version with the shadowline instead of chrome around the windows is an awesome vehicle from what I've seen. The way things are going I'd be owning/leasing the GT within the next 18months. We'll see how it unfolds.

Where I live (Just south of 70k population) I would see probably 1000 S550/S63's combined in a week to every one QP. I've always been a being to not want what the majority has and this vehicle has been and is appealing to me. Therefore I'm going to get one.
