Spies Uncover The Changes For The Full Line of 2008 Audi's
Audi of America, Inc. today announced its entire 2008 model line-up. New for 2008 are the TT Coupe and Roadster, the R8 mid-engine sports car, the limited-production RS 4 Cabriolet, and the A5 and S5 coupes. These six models join the already sporty, sophisticated, and progressive line-up of Audi models, which also receive enhancements for 2008.

Audi has established simplified option packages for the current line-up to ease customer ordering, as well as a standard tire pressure monitoring system in every model. As always, Audi anticipates trends in the industry, and enhances vehicles and packaging to match customer tastes.

New 2008 Models

Audi introduces some very exciting models for 2008. The all-new TT Coupe and Roadster arrived at dealerships in April. The new TT models feature the latest generation of Audi Space Frame (ASF®) that combines aluminum and steel for reduced weight and improved weight distribution. Both Coupe and Roadster models are available with a 200 hp 2.0T FSI engine or a 250 hp 3.2L V6 engine. All V6 models come standard with quattro® all-wheel drive.

September 2007 will mark the U.S. debut of one of the most exclusive sports cars in the world, the R8. Audi’s first-ever mid-engine sports car was named after the legendary race car that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans five times earlier this decade. The all-aluminum R8 has a 420 hp engine available with either a six-speed manual or R tronic sequential automatic gearbox, with sprints from 0-60 mph in 4.4 seconds. The R8’s well-balanced aluminum architecture and mid-engine layout give the R8 handling capabilities unlike any vehicle Audi has ever developed.

Another exciting addition to 2008 will be the RS 4 Cabriolet. Arriving in Fall 2007, the RS 4 Cabriolet shares the same high-revving 4.2 V8 FSI engine found in the RS 4 sedan. It produces 420 hp at 7,800 rpm and comes with a six-speed manual and quattro all-wheel drive, 19” RS 4-style alloy wheels with performance tires, and four-link front and trapezoidal-link rear sport-tuned suspension with Dynamic Ride Control (DRC).

Approximately 300 RS 4 Cabriolets will be sold in the U.S.

Later in the fall, the 2008 S5 will make its debut. The S5 is the first new two-door coupe from Audi in the U.S. since 1991. While developing the S5, engineers moved the powertrain closer to the center of the vehicle. This set-up allows for better handling balance and more room for creativity for the designers. Former Audi Head of Design Walter de Silva called the S5 the “…most beautiful design I’ve ever created.” The S5 will have a 354 hp 4.2 FSI V8 engine, and can run from 0-62 mph in 5.1 seconds. The 2008 A5, with a 265 hp 3.2 FSI V6 engine, will arrive shortly after in early 2008.

2008 Model Year Line-Up

Changes have also been made to the existing line-up for 2008. Listed below are the significant changes to each model, as well as highlights for the all-new models for 2008.

2008 A6 Sedan and Avant/S6 Sedan Changes
Like the A4 sedan and Avant models for 2008, the A6 models will receive the S line exterior treatment as standard equipment, including 18” alloy wheels and rear integrated spoiler from the S6. Additional standard equipment for 2008 consists of headlight washers, SIRIUS satellite radio, and seat-back storage pockets.

They are moving the engine back on the b8 platform coming in the MY 2009 model. It will be on the same platform as the A5. This 2008 model is still the same model as current a4's.

Nice list of options as usual to bad they break. Funny also that everything they have added to either the Q7 or the A4 the Acura MDX and TL already have standard, more for your money "advance". Also they have been in America since 69 and still can't out sell any Japanese Luxury brand.

Too bad that Acura doesn't offer 20 inch wheels for the MDX.

No point in going any further. There is a difference between luxury and entry luxury, I'll leave it at that.

Right.....
You still cannot raise the seat on the passenger side on any Acuras....you can only access the 3rd row seat from the passenger side on the MDX, no adaptive headlights on the MDX, basic rear view camera (no guide lines on screen)...should I go on??

Anybody know when the A8 midcycle refresh occurs? It was not indicated above but with the exception of the anteater grill and bigger engine, there have been no material changes since the model was introduced in 2004.

Also, the A8's sister, the VW Phaeton, has received its mid-cycle refresh already; what gives with the A8?

You'd think Audi would do an updated MMI, new colors, etc. etc? During the model run of the last model, they did a really big update in about 2000 or so.

How many Audi's can you raise the passenger seat. Atleast you don't have to pay extra for sunroof, leather, and heated seats like you do with Audi. The MDX has 19" rims as an option and adaptive suspension that the Q7 doesn't offer not to mention way more standard equipment, plus Acura has one of the best nav systems on the market. They can't put everything in at once if they feel adaptive headlights is important the MDX will have it. Some call it ugly I disagree but you never here the MDX getting dissed unlike the Toureg/Q7 wagon on stilts.
I must be honest I liked the Q7 then I seen it at a car show plain interior and the leather is so stiff you will get a hemroid.

Sorry to disapoint you, but sunroof is now standard on most all models and so is leather and heated seats.
You can raise the passenger seat on ALL Audis...
The Q7 does have Adaptive Air Suspension that is much better than on the Acura.
The Acura does NOT offer Audi Side Assist, Adaptive headlights, Audi Lane Assist, or even Adaptive Cruise Control.
The MDX has a well enough laid out dash board, but some of its materials are sub par; reason why it is not more expensive than it is.
The rear of the MDX was copied from the Q7, but actually more from the concept that Audi came out with a few years ago....it's obvious when they are parked side by side.
The MDX is a good vehicle, but not near the Q7, especially when you have one with the S-Line Package with 21 wheels.

The first thing Honda (Acura) needs to do is to abandon its crazy AWD system that is designed with front and rear axles constantly turning at slightly different speeds and therefore wearing out internal clutches. That is a serious reliability issue with me. With Audi's centre Torsen differential I have no such worries. The only caution about Audis is that not all its "Quattro" systems are the same yet they even call the A3's AWD system a Quattro even though it's a cheaper AWD system than the one used in the A6.

What about a completely-new redesigned A4?

I used to own an Audi but their current lineup sucks. Audis (non “S” or “RS”) are underpowered, heavy, inefficient vehicles with really nice interiors that offer Zero Bang-For-The-Buck and offer poor value. Not to mention crappy resale value.

If an Audi doesn’t have an “S” or an “RS” on the badge then expect it to be the weakest performer in its class. I used to love Audi but the Standard A5 is underpowered. The S5 is overpriced and guzzles gas. The Q7 is nice but way overpriced and doesn’t offer anymore performance than a Lexus RX. The A8 is nice but its nothing compared to the S550, 7-series and the LS460. The TT is about the only non “S” Audi that isn’t the weakest in its class.

I’m sorry but unless Audi comes out with vehicles that aren’t the heaviest, slowest, and have the weakest engines (Non-S). They will not get any more of my money.

you do know that the Q7 competes against the GX and not the RX right. That tells you why the performance are not the same. The RX is much, much smaller and lighter than the Q7. Wait until the Q5 comes out.
I don't know where you have been hiding, but Audis are not slow. I had an A4 2.0T Quattro and it was not slow at all.
As for the resale value, don't know what you have been reading, but they are now one of the best in their class as well as the most reliable Euro brand in the States right behind Lexus.
You say the A5 is underpowered...how do you know?
You drove it?????
The A8 has nothing to be afraid of. Best bang for the buck and in a recent comparaison it finished only one point behind, the first place S550 and that was with an A8 that had the old engine.
Maybe you should be taking a closer look at Audi before make idiotic comments like these.
It's not all about 0-60.

LexSucksLexSucks - 7/18/2007 2:29:24 PM
+1 BoostDrop the Boost Up the Boost
I still stand behind what I say about Audi. The 2.0t may be fast to you but to anyone who knows performance, it’s slow. Relative I guess. I guess you can call the 2.0t’s acceleration adequate, but I’m looking for more that adequate. . As for the A5? 3500 lbs, plus the power Sapping AWD system is too much for 268hp IMO. It isn’t rocket science and besides, the A5’s engine is a carryover engine. The A5’s engine is the same one that is used in A4 3.2 and the A6 3.2. Neither of the cars just mentioned are creating any type of buzz when it comes to performance. I don’t expect the A5 to do any better given the fact that it weighs about the same (slightly less) and has the same engine/drive-train combination.

When cars like the Infiniti G37 are offering 330hp, it makes the Audi A5’s 268hp look anemic IMO. Non “S” Audis are underpowered. I’ll stand behind that 100%

I might have been wrong about the A8 but; show me an A4/A6 model that isn’t closer to the rear than it is to the front, in regards to performance comparisons among it peers.

I never said anything about 0-60. Where did that come from?

Audi's in the US have horrible resale and it is because they are very overpriced. If you wonder why there were dealers advertising $10000 off an 07 A6, and then even at this discount you still loose another $10000 instantly, do some research. The A4 is the same price as the other German small cars, but you get a 4 cyl, not a 6. The A3 is a double priced Golf. Look at the A8 3 year residual, in the 30% range, like a Chevy residual, not a German car. This company has a superiority complex, while making inferior cars. Sure they look nice, but take a look at those incredible interiors and how they fall apart in 3 years just like an Infiniti. Granted they are good in the safety marks, but take a serious look at Toyota, which is just as much a pioneer in safety when it comes to making cars that pass all the tests and show in real world death data to be the best (see iihs.) Audi in the US is simply the most badge oriented brand in the market. This has always been attributed to Mercedes, but it is the Audi owner that craves the badge on their car more than any other driver. They have to have the four rings. For them, Mercedes is inferior and just a badge (untrue), BMW's are crap (untrue), Infiniti and Acura are inferior and don't show that sophisticated taste on the street, and Lexus is boring (Really? Well made, more powerful, way better resale, equal safety, more comfortable is boring?) And the Audi driver thinks that American cars are for ignorant fools who simply dont have their taste or money. I dont consider putting my wife in a 3.6 Q7s with a penchant for dying on the highway and not starting taste or wise use of money. Subaru is a better brand than Audi. Audi is on the level of Saab and Volvo, problematic, quirky and with a few good points.

Some one please get the thread I posted like a week ago about reliability and how Acura is ahead of all this German crap. Overatted I don't think so, who cares about passenger height adjustable seats. Once you find a comfortable position you won't move the seat anyways. Audi needs to invest more on standard features like Bluetooth and XM Navigation. As far as the MDX copying the Q7 that is arguable, the MDX has the V shape back that looks much betterr than Audi's last generation design. tell me something how will Audi feel in 2 years when the Q7 looks so outdated?

Bluetooth is standard on most Audis for 2008 and much better than most systems out there.
XM radio is pretty much dead when Sirius officially takes it over. Only GM and Honda pretty much use XM.
Everybody else uses Sirius.

The Q7 will do just fine in 2 years.
The design on the MDX is just weird and that one will age much faster than the Q7...

Lex: the car has a much better chassis, better dynamics, better weight distribution, and is actually lighter than the current A4.
The engine although still a 3.2 has been completely reworked on the A5.
The A4 with the 2.0T Quattro stick posted a 0-60 time of 6.5 seconds...if you ask me that is pretty damn good for a car that is AWD and "only" 200 Hp.
It beat the IS 250 AWD, 325xi, and other in a comparaison test.

The lack of passenger seat height adjustment on Audi's competition is a deal-breaker for many people. Who cares if you think the Q7 will eventually go out of style. I think the Q7 will become a classic one day, especially the one with the 500 h.p. V12 diesel that will hopefully make it to North America. There was another post that complained about Audi's heavy bodies. Heavy is good as it increases sprung weight, thereby improving the ride. Also, heavy bodies are strong bodies. My oldest daughter put one of my former Audis in the ditch when she was 16 and the only visible damage was caused by the battery cables she and friends used in an attempt to tow the car out of the ditch. The cables snapped and left a whip mark on the rear fender. BTW, Audi's heavy bodies do not affect acceleration appreciably. Acceleration is a function of weight but also engine torque and gearing. The latter two factors have been nicely exploited by Audi to maintain noticeably good acceleration.

Audis don't get outdated. They are pretty timeless, as compared to Acura's 3 year life cycle per model.

Besides, why are Audis being compared to Acura's anyways?

Its like the Hyundai commercials picking on Lexus, BMW, and Land Rover. Only idiots would use this comparison. Audi is lightyears ahead of Acura in everything.

Not here in America!By the way isn't it the other way around XM brought Siruis. Honda has shares in XM that's why you see it in all their models and traffic nav is available in every Acura no other company can boast that.

Nope....
Sirius bought XM.
That tecjnology has been around for years in Europe without Navigation.

I did some researcha nd it is hard to say who brought who because both companies said it is 50/50. However based on share value in the stock market, I would have to still say XM. All XM hardware will still be available in the future, standard in Acura as usual, not no stupid add wire hanging from the roof of the vechicle.
