Spies reveal the official intro dates for the next generation Toyota Land Cruiser and Sequoia
When I was sitting at the Toyota presentation for the new Highlander, Don Esmond slipped in this little tidbit for all you Land Cruiser and Sequoia fans:

"As you can see, the new Highlander has raised the bar significantly," said Esmond. "Last year we did the same with RAV4. And in about a year, we'll do the same with both Land Cruiser and Sequoia. The Toyota division now markets a six-vehicle SUV lineup that appeals to specific buyer demographics and life-stages. It is a lineup that gives us enormous flexibility in responding to shifts in the marketplace. We are committed to keeping our products fresh and at the front of the pack."

So based on his quote, the official introduction will be the 2008 Detroit Auto Show.

And dollars to donuts, the Sequoia will be a modified, fully enclosed Tundra.

The new Tundra, IMO, looks good. Toughness or lack of toughness has never been an issue with the model line. Toyotas, Mistzubishis, and Nissans have been seen the world over riding up and down rural roads and through brush. The next Land Cruisers needs to show a great deal of maturity and capability. The cost of one is high, so the public's expectations will be as well.

...and what is the point of the Sequoia?

LC is on its traditional and well respected platform. loyal owners would have it NO OTHER WAY.

sequoia is on tundra platform, and offers LARGER INTERIOR volume at a lower price.

I don't really know. Then again, whats the point of the GMC Yukon or the Suburbans? If you don't know what the point of the Sequoia is.

"...and what is the point of the Sequoia?"

What's the point????? To have the biggest damn SUV I can get. I have one and I love it. I hope they make it bigger with a more pwoerful engine. Make it so the VSC can be turned off though with out locking the diffs. It would make winter driving so much more fun....

The S-Class is beautiful. I notice your subtlety, Will! Nice try.

Just a reminder that a new Land Cruiser 70 series is being introduced as we speak. For those that don't know, the LC 70 series is positioned against the Land Rover Defender.

People are questioning the point of the Sequoia, not because of its imposing size, but because the LC is already on the market. Honestly, does Toyota really need two huge SUVs? I can understand Tahoe/Suburban- Suburban can fit seven people AND luggage, but some just want to fit seven people in a smaller truck (at the expense of luggage space- Tahoe). But in the LC/Sequoia, both can fit seven people and no luggage.
